☀️ A Day in the Life of a Sea Cadet at Summer Training ⚓

This week course training cadets will begin to arrive at CTC's across the country. The fun is about to begin!

No two days are exactly the same, but every day is packed with adventure, learning, and friendships that last a lifetime. should look something like this...

0600 – Wake up and get ready for the day.
0700 – Breakfast with your course mates.
0800 – Morning classes where you build new skills, from seamanship, sailing, music, drill & ceremonial, to leadership and instructional techniques.
1200 – Lunch and time to recharge.
1300 – Hands-on training! Whether it's on the water, in a boat shed, on the parade square, or tackling a leadership challenge, this is where the learning comes to life.
1700 – Supper, followed by sports, fitness, or time with new friends from across Canada.
1900 – Evening activities that might include team competitions, games, ceremonies, or special events.
2200 – Lights out and time to rest before another exciting day.

Summer Training is about so much more than learning new skills. It's about building confidence, becoming a leader, making lifelong friends, and creating memories you'll never forget.

Every summer, Sea Cadets from across Canada come together to challenge themselves, discover new passions, and experience opportunities unlike anywhere else.

Adventure. Leadership. Friendship. That's what summer training is all about.

A jackstay transfer is one of the many practical seamanship skills used at sea, allowing ships to safely transfer supplies, equipment, and even fuel while underway. Photos like this, showing MV Asterix alongside HMCS Regina during replenishment at sea, highlight the precision, teamwork, and professionalism required to operate in the maritime environment.

At Sea Cadets, we introduce youth to many of the same seamanship principles—line handling, knots, communication, teamwork, and safe practices on the water. While our training takes place on a much smaller scale, the skills and confidence developed are the foundation of the traditions and techniques used by mariners around the world.

The Tall Ships 250 celebration in Baltimore is an incredible reminder that traditional seamanship is alive and well. These magnificent vessels showcase the timeless skills of navigation, teamwork, sail handling, and leadership that have shaped mariners for centuries.

While we teach many of these same practical seamanship principles to our cadets, it would be truly amazing to see these historic ships under sail one day. There's nothing quite like watching history come alive on the water.

It's amazing to see the Canadian Coast Guard's CCGS Sir Wilfrid Laurier operating in Japan, showcasing Canada's presence and capabilities on the international stage.

I had the opportunity to tour this incredible ship several years ago, and seeing where she is today is a great reminder of the important work the Canadian Coast Guard does—both at home and abroad. Wishing her crew safe sailing as they continue representing Canada around the world!

☀️ Summer Adventures Await for RCSCC Kamloops! ⚓

As another school year comes to an end, the excitement is just beginning for many of our cadets!

Over the coming weeks, some cadets from RCSCC Kamloops will be travelling to summer training establishments across Canada, where they will participate in challenging training programs, develop new skills, build lasting friendships, and take on leadership opportunities that will stay with them for years to come.

From teamwork and personal growth to confidence and leadership development, these experiences help prepare our cadets to become the leaders of tomorrow.

We are proud of each cadet taking part in summer training and look forward to hearing about their adventures and accomplishments when they return.

Wishing all of our cadets, staff, and families a safe and enjoyable summer!

Shaping leaders. Building confidence. Creating opportunities.
