* Long post PLEASE read as this will affect the Westsyde community as a whole*

We are at a point where we are desperate and pleading for help and support. The society will not be able to continue at the end of our year. We are losing our secretary and without filling that role we can't continue as a society.

Our current secretary will not be seeking another term next year. We wish her all the best and are thankful for her guidance and support with everything she has done for the society.

Without someone stepping up and taking on that role however, the society will not be able to continue.
This society is run on volunteers, many of us working full time jobs as well. We are a group of individuals that love our Westsyde community and want to be able to continue to support and enhance Westsyde.

We have been struggling the last few years with getting Westsyde residents involved in the society. There are a lot of people wanting us to do things for the community but don't seem to understand that in order for us to support Westsyde we need active involvement from the Westsyde residents.

There is a huge lack of volunteers when we do call outs and reach out to individuals to help with our community events.
Our memberships are lacking (its 5$ a year and a 2 hr meeting once a month...you don't even have to attend all the meetings)
We are looking at doing a hybrid option starting in September so that individuals can join our meetings via ZOOM

Over the years we the society has been instrumental in the upgrade to the Westsyde pool, building of the bathrooms at centennial park, our volunteers make the ice rink happen, we have advocated HARD for Westsyde, we have made our face present at numerous city meetings about Westsyde, we have brought back community events (Westsyde Days) for our community and we are actively trying to bring a new skatepark to our community. All of this and more won't be able to continue if we can't get people to the society.

So please if you have a few hours a month to spare and feel like you can help out, the community of Westsyde would be grateful.

We are looking for 2 roles right now. Secretary and treasurer. If you would like any further information please reach out to [email protected]

WE NEED YOUR HELP WESTSYDE

As we go into the end of our society year we have been informed our current treasurer will not be coming back next year as she is ready to officially enjoy retirement after numerous years with us!

What that means for us a society is that we are needing someone to step up to the plate and take that crucial role so that we can continue as your community society. Without someone in that role we could face losing the society altogether.

The majority of our society is run by some amazing people who would love to be able to take on more roles but with the lack of Westsyde residents wanting to become members , it has our current members running multiple positions along with maintaining full times jobs and families outside of the society. It is just not doable!

This society ultimately needs more support and people wanting to be members to keep going! So please share this post and help us keep going. We have poured so much into this community and bringing things to our Westsyde Community! Now we need you.

We have multiple positions coming available and becoming a member doesn't mean you have to take on a position either. If you are interested in any capacity please reach out to us via email at [email protected]

Hello Neighbours,

The City of Kamloops is hosting monthly flexible plastics recycling pop-up events for 2026.

The events will take place 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM on the third Sunday of each month at a different parking lot location around the city.

February's pop-up event is this Sunday, February 22, at Westsyde Centennial Park, 705 Franklin Road.

Receive a free reusable pink tote bag (perfect for collecting recyclables in) when you drop off flexible plastics at a pop-up event.

Flexible plastics include plastic bags, plastic overwrap on flats of beverages or paper towel rolls, crinkly wrappers (e.g. pasta, chips, candy), cereal box liners, cheese wrappers, coffee bags, zipper lock or stand-up pouches (e.g. dried fruit, nuts, frozen foods), woven and net plastic bags, and protective and squishy cushion packaging.

The pop-up event will return to Westsyde Centennial Park on Sunday, July 26, and Sunday, September 27.

Visit Kamloops.ca/RecyclingPopUp and learn why flexible plastics don’t belong in the blue recycling cart, where you can drop off flexible plastics for recycling at any time (at recycling depots), and find all of the 2026 dates and locations for the pop-up events.

The City of Kamloops is pleased to announce monthly flexible plastics recycling pop-up events for 2026.
