Jasper Food Bank

We would like to invite Jasper community members to the Food Bank next Wednesday from 1-2pm to help us stock our shelves with another generous delivery from Amazon.

In the months after the Jasper Wildfire Complex of 2024, Amazon donated an incredibly substantial amount of food and goods to the Jasper Food Bank. So much, in fact, that we had to have Food Banks Alberta intercept and store many crates of goods at their Leduc facility until we had room in our small trailer to take a pallet or two of crates at a time.

We are incredibly thankful for their support and would like to honour their request for council, community members and media presence as they visit Jasper next week and pledge their ongoing support to the Food Bank and our community.

If you're looking for a job or a bit of extra income, stop by the Employment Centre....their wonderful staff can help you find something that suits your skillset and schedule.

A heartfelt THANK YOU to AMA - Alberta Motor Association for this gigantic haul of donations. (I'll have to consider getting a bigger vehicle if I get more donations this size!!)

Hello community members,
Starting this month, the food bank will be scheduling check-ins with all new and current clients. This is to make sure we have the proper time to chat with each client in a private setting and learn more about their individual situations and challenges.

If it is your first time visiting the food bank, you may come during our regular opening time, on Thursday evenings between 5:30-6:30pm. We will go through the welcome process and you can use the food bank as needed. A scheduled appointment with our food bank staff will be required before your next visit.

If you have used our food bank before, the same process will be followed. A check-in meeting will need to be scheduled before the next visit.

The appointment times offered cover different times of the day and evening in hopes that there is a time that works with all schedules. If you find that there are no times offered to meet your needs, an alternate meeting time can likely be arranged by phoning or texting the food bank.

We understand that each client has different needs and challenges. These check-ins are not to discourage those facing food insecurity from using the food bank, but rather to find ways we can better help with each situation and hopefully connect you to additional resources, if appropriate. They also allow the food bank and our board members to advocate for municipal, provincial and federal resources based on the common needs and challenges we see in our community.

🤩🤩🤩 VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION POST🤩🤩🤩

The Jasper Food Bank is incredibly lucky to have the best ever volunteers.

We have so many volunteers that we can count on, week after week, to provide wonderful service with a smile to our clients. And when we have organizing and sorting to do, we have volunteers for that, too!

Last night we were stoked to welcome back a volunteer who had to leave us for a few months. To celebrate, we cut up a mango pie and shared a few laughs.

Thanks to everyone who helps out, no matter what the capacity. We are so lucky for this community and the family we've created at the food bank.

If you haven't completed your questionnaire yet and we follow up with you, here’s how to recognize official census communications:

📩 Reminder letters will be sent by mail or delivered in person, which will contain a secure access code to complete the census questionnaire online.

🪪 In person follow-ups will be conducted by employees with an identification card.

📱 Text message reminders may also be sent from the text message short code number 236732.

📞 If a follow-up phone call to a household is needed, the census employees will identify themselves clearly.

Last month, through Tourism Jasper, we were given the opportunity to be a part of the Oilers 50/50 and we really can’t thank them enough. This was a remarkable opportunity and the funds raised by this event will mean that we can continue to provide fresh produce, dairy and meat for almost the entire year to Jasperites struggling to feed their household.

Living in a community that relies heavily on tourism means that many Jasper residents' hours fluctuate significantly as the weeks, months and seasons change. When tourism is low, hours get cut and paychecks grow smaller while expenses stay the same. This can be extremely challenging for those working in tourist-facing front-line roles.

We’d graciously and wholeheartedly like to thank Tourism Jasper for creating this opportunity for us. We continue to be grateful for this community and for the generosity and support that we feel from businesses and individuals in Jasper.

We’d also be remiss not to thank Heather and her team at Friends of Jasper National Park. Without her and her amazing team of volunteers, this would not have been possible. Heather was able to round up an incredible team of volunteers to help at the event. Thank you so much to everyone who took time out of their Easter weekend to attend the game and sell tickets.

We are so fortunate to run our food bank in such a caring and supportive community. Thank you again to Jasper, Canada and Friends of Jasper National Park for this incredible opportunity, and to everyone who supports us year round. We couldn't do this without such tremendous support.
