We’re excited to welcome Susan Given, who joined JCTS this week as our new Executive Director!

Susan is a Jasper resident and Registered Social Worker who brings 30 years of leadership experience in community-based health and social services, organizational leadership and entrepreneurship.

Throughout her career, Susan has focused on strengthening communities, building partnerships and turning shared priorities into action. She also brings significant experience supporting communities through disaster and recovery, including work in Slave Lake, Fort McMurray, High Level and Jasper.

For Susan, this new role is also personal.

“Jasper is home, so the opportunity to bring my experience to an organization dedicated to the wellbeing of this community means a great deal to me. I’m looking forward to listening, learning and working alongside residents, community organizations, partners and supporters to build on the tremendous work already underway”.

As Jasper continues its recovery and looks toward the future, Susan will work with the JCTS Board, team and community partners to strengthen community wellbeing, connection and resilience.

🌿 Recovery Grant Series Showcase 🌿

Over the past year, local organizations in Jasper have stepped up in a big way to support our community’s wildfire recovery, and we were pleased to play a part through our JCTS Recovery Grants. In partnership with the Banff Canmore Foundation, the JCTS helped provide grants that moved some great ideas into reality.

Here’s one amazing project to kick off a series showcasing this unified effort to rebuild connection, resilience, and hope.

Using a JCTS Recovery Grant, Ecole Desrochers has fully restored its living wall and aquarium after the 2024 wildfire evacuation. These natural features are thriving once again to bring colour, calm, and connection back into the heart of the school.

Students now use the space for learning, emotional regulation, and hands on stewardship. The restored wall has become a symbol of renewal for the whole community.

Notice of new funding opportunity for local Jasper community groups 📣

The Government of Canada has launched a new funding program called Community Life.

The objectives of the program are:
1️⃣to foster the implementation of activities and projects or programming that ensure the long-term development of official-language minority communities in key sectors
2️⃣to help expand and diversify the range of partners working together towards the development of official-language minority communities
3️⃣to help make official-language minority communities more inclusive

This funding stream supports initiatives that open the door to recreation for a broad range of people, for all abilities, during all seasons. If your project creates a lasting impact and results in enduring benefit to the community, this is a funding stream you should explore.

Eligible applicants include registered charities, and other qualified donees having CRA charitable status. Apply by April 30, 2026!

Jasper Recreation Opportunities Grant Program is now accepting applications!

This program supports initiatives that open the door to recreation for everyone—across all ages, abilities, and seasons. Priority is given to projects that create lasting impact and continue benefiting the community well beyond the grant period.

The Jasper Community Team Society is honoured to be the beneficiary of the Edmonton Oilers 50/50 draw today at Rogers Place as the Oilers take on the Ducks.

A heartfelt thank you to the Edmonton Oilers and Karbon Community for supporting the JCTS and helping us provide Jasper residents access health-care and social services through locally based programs. Our charity is playing an important role in Jasper’s recovery, which is not a quick fix and will take over a decade.

As the JCTS seeks to support the community over the long term, it is important for us to help fundraise for the organization’s sustainability. The portion of the 50/50 proceeds JCTS receives from this raffle will help do that.

Over three days, SkiBig3’s annual Community Ski Days raised $33,600 for the JCTS' Jasper Fire: Caring Community Fund, supporting Jasper as it continues to navigate the long road back from the 2024 wildfire. We could not be more grateful for this unbelievably generous support 🙏

The event, held at Lake Louise Ski Resort, Banff Norquay Ski & Summer Resort, and Banff Sunshine Village, offered discounted lift tickets for Bow Valley locals, with 100 per cent of proceeds directed to wildfire recovery efforts.

According to Wanda Bogdane, executive director of the Jasper Community Team Society, the fund has focused heavily on what are known as “wraparound supports.”

“These are delivered through a team-based, holistic planning process via our partners, Community Outreach Services, to provide comprehensive, individualized supports to children, youth and families facing complex needs,” Bogdane said.

In 2025 alone, that assistance reached more than 750 people and funded dozens of programs, totaling over $800,000 in assistance.

**Meeting Needs, One Household at a Time**

In the immediate aftermath of the wildfire, funding was directed toward urgent needs: food, housing, and basic essentials. But recovery has proven more complex.

“The funds we’ve distributed have been those of last resort,” Bogdane said. “They’ve assisted individuals and families dealing with food and financial insecurity, replaced household essentials, and supported medical costs, housing insecurity, winter clothing, and more.”
