Qikiqtani Inuit Assoc.

Qikiqtani Inuit Assoc. Protecting and promoting Inuit rights and values in the Qikiqtani (Baffin) region. We are also known as a Regional Inuit Association (RIA).

Qikiqtani Inuit Association (QIA) represents over 15,500 Inuit of the Qikiqtani (Baffin) region in a fair and democratic way. The Qikiqtani region includes 13 communities from Quttiktuq (High Arctic) down to Sanikiluaq (Belcher Island). We started as a non-profit, land claim and community organization in 1996 registering as a society in 1997. Our predecessor, the Baffin Regional Inuit Association

(BRIA) was formed in 1975. Under the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement (NLCA), we are considered a Designated Inuit Organization (DIO) as per Article 39. There are three RIAs affiliated with Nunavut Tunngavik Incorporated (NTI). The Board of Directors of NTI is made up of the three Regional Inuit Associations including NTI’s President being accountable to all Inuit beneficiaries. We work closely with our partners and different levels of governments to ensure that Inuit are being adequately served. There are two Inuit organizations operating under the QIA umbrella:

Kakivak Association (Kakivak) is responsible for community economic development and small business development. Qikiqtaaluk Corporation (QC) is the development corporation of QIA. https://linktr.ee/Qikiqtani_Inuit

It’s exciting to see QIA’s High Arctic housing project taking shape in Arctic Bay, Clyde River, and Pond Inlet. As modular home construction continues, our contractor, IDP Group, recently brought community members together for BBQs in both communities to celebrate the progress. Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make the events a success! Here are a few photos from the BBQ’s and the housing construction underway.
