In partnership with the Belgian-based non-profit OffshoreWind4Kids, with support from the RBC Foundation and the Department of Natural Resources and Energy, COVE is hosting free interactive showcases at beach locations across Atlantic Canada this summer.

During these one-hour sessions, participants will:
-Build and test their own models of real-world offshore wind turbines in the water
-Learn about offshore wind and renewable energy
-Explore careers in the ocean and renewable energy sectors

The activity is open to ages 6+ and is especially recommended for ages 8–13. Parents or guardians must remain with their children, and COVE staff and volunteers will guide participants throughout the activity.

Our upcoming Interactive Showcase is happening on Wednesday, August 26th, at 11:00 a.m. at Inverness Beach.

Wow. What a great weekend. Our first shout out has to go to Mother Nature for giving us a great weekend. It got a little snowy at the end, but overall a beautiful weekend to gather inside and out!

We had a great group of volunteers that were busy all over town this weekend. Getting skis on, hosting card players, making tea and giving out smiles and prizes. A reliable, generous and figuring it out on the fly team is key for something like this to happen.

Our prizes were generously donated by Caper Gym and Fitness, , missbrenna, The Annex Restaurant and beautiful bouquets kept popping up all weekend from Quincy Street Market. Our crib board 1st prizes were made by Jimmy Delaney and we know our winners, Claire and Leslie will put them to good use. Cabot Cape Breton & The Pantry donated some delicious treats!

These weekends don’t happen without a lot of help. Our committee had the help of yoga instructor Catie Mason, expert decorators Sarah & Alexa MacDougall, expert crib master Charlotte Campbell, Popcorn makers & Movie fans Brittany & Bridget MacQuarrie, Trivia master Grayer Parsons and IECA student council, soup connoisseur Charlene Vacon of Delight & Co. Confectionery and expert cross country skiers Mary Anderson, Jade Meunier, Lorne MacInnis and Janet & Jamie MacDonald. When you can’t do it, you find those who can!

Events were hosted at arena, Inverness Firehall, Inverness Legion Br. 132, The Annex, Mill Road Social Enterprises, Caper Gym and The Dancing Goat Cafe & Bakery. We even used the new courts for our skiing and snowshoeing with the equipment generously donated by Municipality of the County of Inverness. You can rent the equipment yourself any time and we haven’t had a winter better this one to use them.

And our storytellers, emcee Frank MacDonald, Tammy MacKay-Kearney, Donnie “Hoss” MacLellan, Eleanor MacDonald, and Lindsay MacIsaac-Ryan delivered so much heart and so many laughs about the history of some of Inverness’s longest running institutions. The Inverness Oran, The Broadcove Concert and Inverness Raceway celebrating 50, 70, and 100 years respectively is amazing and we encourage you to check out any upcoming celebrations for these organizations this year.

If you missed out on the last few days, we encourage you to go and check out the colorful ice sculpture at the end of the Inverness Art Centre entrance. They have been hard at work the last few days and it’s looking good!

Thank you to all the community members who took part. Our feedback has been very positive and getting people together and having some fun in February was our goal and I think we accomplished it. 🩷

Come to Caper Gym and Fitness for 10am snowga or come on down and try some sweet winter gear from the Muncipality. We’ve got people to help and a great way to try before you decide on a new winter hobby!

It’s day 3, the last day of our Cold Hands, Warm Hearts winter festival.

You will want to head up to Caper Gym and Fitness. We have some snowga with Catie Mason to start off the day at 10am. It’s a fun, all ages, all abilities activity. No prior yoga experience necessary. We just recommend dressing warm.

We do have some warm drinks and sweet treats at the gym for all participants (or chauffeurs)

After we are warmed up, the Municipality of the County of Inverness has loaned us some snowshoes, Nordic walking poles and cross country skis of all sizes. We will have people ready to help you try out the equipment on site 11-12.

At 12 until 2, Mill Road Social Enterprises is hosting SOUPer Sunday. A pay what you can lunch to warm you up.

At 2-4 at the Fire Hall, we have a storytelling circle celebrating 100 years of the Inverness Racetrack, 70 years of the Broadcove Scottish Concert, and 50 years of The Inverness Oran. Hosting by Frank MacDonald, tea and oatcakes and memorabilia to check out. We hope to see you there!!

After the 6pm family skate tonight, there is a movie night at 7:30pm in the warm room. A screening of Gnomeo & Juliet complete with concession stand is available. $5 admission!

It’s Day 2 of the Cold Hands, Warm Hearts winter festival. We have a crib tournament starting at 1pm at The Annex Restaurant. They have generously opened during their winter break to host. Light snacks and drinks for the players but no kitchen service is available. The winners will recieve gorgeous handmade crib boards by Jimmy Delaney.

We have a family skate at 6 with cookies & cocoa provided by Cabot. Valentines themed outfits may even win you a prize!

And then a dance at Inverness Legion Br. 132 at 9pm for you and your valentine or palentine! The band Caper will be playing, $10 admission.
