As we continue to reflect and share stories about Joan, we would like to share the arrangements for the visitation and funeral service:

Visitation will be held on October 14, 2026 (Wednesday), from 2:00 p.m. โ€“ 4:00 p.m. and from 7:00 p.m. โ€“ 9:00 p.m. at Port Hood Resting Place.

The Funeral Mass will be held on October 15, 2026 (Thursday), at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peterโ€™s Catholic Church in Port Hood.

For Joanโ€™s many friends from around the world who canโ€™t be there in person, the funeral service will be live-streamed from St. Peterโ€™s Roman Catholic Parish in Port Hood.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ‚

Today, we gathered for our yearly tradition of sharing a meal together. We have so much to be grateful for.

We began by recognizing the absence of a very dear friend, Joan, and taking a moment to remember and give thanks for the deep and lasting mark she left on our hearts.

This year, we are grateful for friends, community, fun and laughter, and for a place to belong.

It is with deep sadness and deep gratitude that we share our beloved Joan has passed away today surrounded by love.

Joan's love for her family was profound and unwavering, and they loved her just as much.

She found joy in the simplest things โ€” a pop, a Christmas song, a good drawing late into the night. She would tell you freely that she loved you, call you sweetheart, and shed gentle tears until you met again.

She was, in her own words, a "really, really good artist. A natural artist." She loved drawing her family and friends at L'Arche, painting the ocean, and listening to Anne Murray, Reba, and Shania while she worked.

Full of red hair, mischief, and pride in who she was.

Above all, Joan wanted peace. She lived it by being genuinely kind and forgiving. May we carry it forward for her.

We will miss our great artist and good friend.

What a beautiful day on Stoney Point Road! ๐Ÿ‚โ˜€๏ธ

Thank you to EVERYONE who came out to Walk, Run, and Roll with us today in Orangedale!

The fall colours were showing off, the road was quiet and safe, and we had walkers, runners, rollers and bikers โ€” kids, dogs, families and friends โ€” all out together getting active. Exactly what this event is all about.

A huge thank you to the Core Members who powered this fundraiser: Trevor, Abby, Jacques, Lindsay, Carolyn, Ian, Bern, and Jordan.

And thank you to our incredible community โ€” together we raised almost $5,400 to support our day programs!

Itโ€™s the bounce that counts! This was the story of how Maggie found her home in Lโ€™Arche. Among the big crowd of people, Maggie stood out by jumping, and so the founders of Lโ€™Arche Cape Breton invited her to join Lโ€™Arche and the rest is history.

Today, we celebrated Maggieโ€™s 40 years in our Community! We give thanks for all she has taught us โ€” to stand up and speak up, to build deep friendships, to welcome strangers and bring people together, and to love fiercely those she loves.
