Our next spotlight is Amber Schick stepping into the role of Vice President. She has previously served on the board for seven years, including time as President.
Her children grew up riding at the Windermere Valley Saddle Club, and Amber has been deeply involved in the club for many years. She has organized numerous events, including gymkhanas, barrel and pole nights, queen competitions for Bull Busting Grand Entry, young horse training sessions, and many group clinics.
Amber started riding at a very young age and had her first horse at the age of 9. She grew up managing a ranch in Manitoba called Falcon Beach Ranch, where they had over 30 horses. She ran sleigh rides, riding lessons, summer camps, trail rides, overnight camps, and trained many young horses. She also competed in barrel racing, and taught barrel lessons before moving west. After arriving in the Columbia Valley, Amber spent two years guiding in Yoho National Park, and several more years guiding in Fairmont Hot Springs, and Panorama, where she often led multi-day trips to Toby Glacier.
Although Amber stepped away from barrel racing seven years ago due to an injury at a race, she has continued coaching her children in training their own colts. Her daughter is a barrel racer, and her son is a team roper. She still rides almost daily on her horses, When and Zodiak, and her new passion is sorting cows. Amber also takes pride in coaching her daughter, now 16 who has earned 11 buckles, including making the short go at the Alberta Finals last Summer on two horses, one of which she trained herself. Nearly all of their horses have been trained by the family.
Amber has taught riding lessons on and off since living in Invermere, and hopes to offer group lessons again this spring. She also owns and operates Unleashed Pet Care Services, a kennel, dog daycare, and training centre that has been serving the community for 25 years.
We are stoked to have Amber Brooks Schick back on the board at Windermere!! Thanks for all that you do Amber ๐ช๐ผ๐ด
