Here’s a Innisfil Historical Society challenge: Become part of a fun Spelling Bee with modern flexible rules and the lure of prizes.
Come to Knock School on Saturday, March 21, at 2 p.m. This invitation is issued to participants of all ages. Join in the fun by competing in your age grouping or team.
Old Spellers that have been lovingly stored on Knock School shelves will be the source of words, so there will be no unique medical or scientific terms.
The fun takes place at the Knock Heritage Schoolhouse at the corner of the 10th Sideroad and Innisfil Con. 9.
Members of the public are welcome. Free admission and refreshments!

Innisfil retrospective news flash... the winter of 1963 - the coldest for more than 200 years, brought blizzards, snow drifts, blocks of ice, and temperatures lower than -20 °C.
It was colder than the winter of 1947, and the coldest since 1740. It began abruptly just before Christmas in 1962.
The winter of 2025-2026 is just like those of the good old days. Those nostalgic HEAVY SNOW winters of the 60s/70s in Innisfil have been largely replaced by milder, shorter, and less predictable winters, with more slushy weather, and less consistent snow cover.
The 2024–2025 winter was ranked among the warmest, following 2023–2024, which was the warmest on record.
THE PHOTO from 1926 shows Mary Sloan in a snow tunnel at the north end of Churchill after a snowstorm.

Members -- Are you missing your October issue of Innisfil Notes? If you get your copy by Canada Post, you'll realize we haven't been able to get it to you yet because of the Canada Post labour disruptions.
Don't worry -- you can pick up your copy in person at this Saturday's regular meeting at the Knock Schoolhouse. Those not picked up Oct. 18 will eventually be mailed out.
And if you get yours by email, well, happy reading!

Ever wonder why we didn’t become the 51st state at right from the outset?
Or why an “elbows up” attitude was reflected in the British names littering our local landscape?
Local historian and retired teacher Mark Fisher will answer all of your questions when he addresses the Simcoe County Historical Association and Innisfil Historical Society on Sat., Oct. 18 at the Knock Heritage Centre.
We're located at the intersection of the 10th Sideroad and the 9th line of Innisfil. This event begins at 2 p.m. and is open to the public.
Fisher’s illustrated talk, entitled “A Warrior’s Journey,” traces the expedition by John Graves Simcoe to Penetanguishene in 1793 and why it was so crucial to our survival.

Join us for our September meeting at the Knock Schoolhouse Heritage Site at 2 p.m. Saturday Sept. 20.
Guest speaker is Mike Nicol, who will share his experiences as a survivor of the "Sixties Scoop." This came about in the 1960s when federal government policy permitted Indigenous children to be removed from their families by child welfare authorities. Many were placed in foster care or adopted by non-Indigenous families.
Our meetings are open to the public as well as members. We're at #7756 10th Sideroad at the 9th Line, Innisfil.
