Subject: South Simcoe Ball Hockey Leagues – Player Release Policy
To Our Members and the Ball Hockey Community,
South Simcoe Ball Hockey Leagues (SSBHL) would like to clarify our position regarding player releases.
SSBHL will not be granting player releases for athletes who are registered within our league and those playing abroad. This policy was communicated to both registered and prospective members earlier this year and was intended to provide transparency and consistency for all participants and families. Many OBHF leagues have communicated this policy prior to registration, while others did not, despite the importance of ensuring players and families fully understood registration commitments before joining a league.
Our organization remains committed to building strong local programs, maintaining competitive balance, and ensuring the long-term sustainability of ball hockey opportunities within our communities.
We would also like to advise members that changes are expected for the 2027 season. Under the anticipated rules, player eligibility will be based on geographic boundaries, with athletes registering within their designated league area according to their residential postal code. This change is intended to strengthen community-based programming, improve fairness across leagues, and provide a clear and consistent framework for player registration throughout the province.
SSBHL has always operated with the goal of providing quality programming for local athletes while supporting the growth of ball hockey across Ontario. We appreciate the understanding and cooperation of our members as the sport continues to evolve.
Should you have any questions regarding player eligibility, registration policies, or future boundary requirements, please contact the Ontario Ball Hockey Federation directly.
Thank you for your continued support.
