At Northern Mentors, we love seeing community members step up and make a difference. That’s why we want to give a shoutout to The Slobberknockers and their partnership with the Corner Lighthouse Community Hub.

This is what community is all about.

❤️ Showing up when people need help.
💧 Delivering water and supplies.
🥪 Providing meals to those struggling.
☀️ Being there on the hottest days.
❄️ Standing strong on the coldest days.
🤝 Building friendships, hope, and connection.

Too often people are forgotten when times get tough. Groups like this remind us that one act of kindness can change someone’s entire day.

As Northern Mentors, we believe that strong communities are built when organizations, volunteers, and everyday people work together to lift each other up. Whether you’re helping a child, supporting a family, feeding someone in need, or simply taking the time to listen, every effort matters.

Tonight, Northern Mentors Friday Night Bike Night is about something bigger than motorcycles.

It’s about community.
It’s about compassion.
It’s about showing a local family that they are not facing their challenges alone.

Sometimes life gets heavy… and too many people in this world are scared to ask for help.

At Northern Mentors, we want the people of Muskoka to know something very important:

❤️ It is okay to ask for help.
❤️ It is okay to say you’re struggling.
❤️ It is okay to need support for your kids, your family, or even yourself.

That’s why we are here.

Northern Mentors was built for this community — for the kids who need guidance, for the parents who need support, and for the families who just need someone willing to listen and put the time in.

We believe our youth deserve better.
We believe kids deserve mentors, positive role models, safe places, and people who genuinely care about their future.
We believe families should never feel alone.

🏡❤️ WHAT HAPPENED TO SMALL COMMUNITY VALUES? ❤️🏡

Somewhere along the way, this world got too distracted.

Kids don’t need another screen shoved in front of them…
They need attention.
They need guidance.
They need parents who actually listen.

What happened to kids riding bikes until the street lights came on?
Playing road hockey.
Building forts.
Fishing with their parents.
Bonfires, laughter, scraped knees, and real memories.

Now too many kids are stuck inside while the world scrolls past them.

Parents sitting on the couch doom scrolling for hours while their child sits alone in a bedroom being told to “go entertain yourself.”
And half the time, nobody even realizes that kid is hurting, lonely, or just laying on the floor wishing someone would notice them.

Your phone should never be more important than your child.

Put the device down.
Go outside with them.
Throw a ball around.
Take them fishing.
Go for a walk.
Teach them something.
Ask them about their dreams.
Actually HEAR them when they speak.

Kids remember time.
Kids remember effort.
Kids remember who showed up.

A small community becomes strong when we raise strong kids together. Not by ignoring them while social media raises them for us.

Our youth are craving connection more than ever before.
Not likes.
Not followers.
Not another video.

Real connection.

So let’s bring back what mattered:

🏒 Playing outside
🚲 Bike rides
🔥 Community bonfires
👨‍👩‍👧 Parents being PRESENT
🤝 Neighbours looking out for each other
❤️ And kids feeling loved, seen, and important

Sobeys in Gravenhurst will be accepting monetary donations at the check out all this week until Sunday (No obligation) All funds including a separate donation from Sobeys in Gravenhurst will be directly sent to Cody's Family. Cody sadly passed away as a result of being struck by an impaired driver in Bracebridge,.

In Loving Memory of Cody Nelson 23 Years Old.

Cody was a valued member of the Gravenhurst Sobeys team for more than two years. He was known for always having a smile on his face, his positive attitude and the kindness he showed to everyone around him. He received countless compliments from customers and made a lasting impression on both staff and shoppers alike.
Most importantly, Cody was an incredibly proud father. His 2.5-year-old son was his entire world and that is what pushed him to work so hard.

Our community is heartbroken after Cody’s life was tragically taken by an impaired driver in Bracebridge. No family should have to endure a loss like this.

To help support the little boy Cody loved so deeply, donations can be made at any till. 100% of the funds collected will go directly toward supporting Cody’s son and family.
Any contribution, no matter the amount, is sincerely appreciated.
Thank you for helping us honour Cody’s memory and support the family he loved most.
