“They couldn’t be happier seeing their sons work where they met.”

It’s Disability Service Professionals Week and we’re celebrating some of the individuals (and families) at SaskAbilities helping create more inclusive communities for everyone.

Brothers Lucas and Logan were almost predestined to work at SaskAbilities in Regina.

Years ago, their parents, Lisa and Mike, met while working at the Regina Branch. Their lives took them from Regina to Dauphin and then to Humboldt, but their youngest sons found their way back to the city where they were born. And then to the day program where both are support workers – Lucas for the past seven years and Logan having just celebrated his first anniversary.

“It’s just how the cards played,” says Lucas. “I moved to Regina and saw an opportunity to work here. Asked mom and dad about it and they said that’d be great.”

“They’re incredibly proud,” adds Logan. “Very happy to see us here. Especially when I started working here too ... they couldn’t be happier seeing their sons work where they met.”

It has worked well for the brothers as well. They say the communication between them is instantaneous – as one might expect – but the occupational benefits go beyond just that.

“It does help,” says Lucas. “It gives you someone to relate to at work because they know you’re dealing with the same things and they can understand it if you’ve had a hard day.”
