NOTICE: access to Old Man Lake Park will be restricted for the next couple of weeks as a new bridge gets installed. We've worked with BC Parks and BC Timber Sales to bring some interesting upgrades to this park and can't wait to see it all when it's done!

There is still lots of snow in them there hills. Shoulder season hiking requires you to...hike the shoulders, picking the best snow-free ridges to get you to the peak.

🚧🎉EXCITING NEWS: PEACOCK FALLS “soft opening”:
It's been 3 years and our work to re-establish the trail from the wildfire🔥 damage is almost complete. Users are allowed to use the trail but must be cautious if they encounter contractors on site.
Here are a few things to remember:
👉Please DO NOT remove or change any of the survey stakes that you may find along the trail (even if they're in the middle of the trail !). Contractors need these in place to do the final building phase.
👉The last 100m of the trail is not fully re-built, but you can see there is a large swath cleared out for it. Pick your own route up to the falls until the final stretch of trail is built.
👉Final building and interpretive signage will be completed by the end of summer.
👉As always, be careful at the waterfall viewpoint!

The trail now follows a new route and is a wide machine-built trail. The salvage block was necessary to recover the damaged timber and improve safety along the trail. After harvesting, we have been working with BC Timber Sales to establish a unique demonstration plantation that will provide for an interesting experience long into the future. 🌲🌲🌲

🏔️TIP TUESDAY🏔️
Do a Quick Gear Check Before You Start

Before you hit the trail, take a minute to check your gear — it’s a small habit that can prevent big problems later. Making sure everything is packed, working, and easy to access helps your hike start smoothly and stay that way.

Double-check the basics:
• Do you have enough water and snacks?
• Is your phone charged?
• Do you have an extra layer if the weather changes?
• Are your laces tied properly and your pack sitting comfortably?

It’s also a good time to make sure items you might need quickly — like gloves, a rain jacket, or snacks — are within easy reach, not buried at the bottom of your bag.

👉 Pro tip: Get into the habit of doing this check at the trailhead. It only takes a minute, but it can save you from turning back early or dealing with discomfort on the trail.

A simple gear check sets the tone for a more relaxed, prepared, and enjoyable hike.
