📢 HOUSTON & BULKLEY VALLEY: HELP US PRESERVE & UPGRADE HOUSING FOR OUR SENIORS! 🏡❤️
The Houston Retirement Housing Society operates an independent living facility with 24 units across 4 complexes right here in town. Our vision is simple: to provide our local seniors with a safe, comfortable, and affordable environment they can proudly call home.
To keep our complexes and grounds beautifully maintained, safe, and up-to-date, we need to secure capital grants and community funding. We are desperately seeking passionate volunteers and board members to help us with fundraising and grant opportunities.
Because we don't run day-to-day programs, our entire focus is on upgrading the infrastructure and maintaining the grounds for our residents. We can't do it alone!

📋 How You Can Help Us Maintain Their Homes:
• Board Members: Help guide our society's financial strategy, capital planning, and long-term facility vision.
• Grant Researchers & Writers: Help us target and apply for infrastructure, housing, and community development grants (BC provincial, federal, and private).
• Fundraising Coordinators: Help organize local campaigns, donation drives, or community partnerships to fund facility upgrades and grounds maintenance.

A Big Thank You from the Houston Retirement Housing Society!
All of us at the Houston Retirement Housing Society would like to extend our sincere thanks to Randy Proctor and Trevor Jaarsma of JP Exterior Solutions for their generous donation of time and materials. They recently repaired a faulty eavestrough on one of our units, helping us keep it functioning until we can replace it next summer. We truly appreciate their kindness and support of our residents.
We would also like to recognize Vern Czifusz, our Maintenance Director, for all the time and effort he puts into keeping our buildings maintained and looking for ways to keep our costs down.
A special thank you also goes to Ruby Kenzle, our Treasurer and one of our newest board members, for all the work she does behind the scenes, including banking, mail, paying bills, entering information into our system and completing our monthly reconciliation.
Vern and Ruby have also been working together to find fundraising and grant opportunities to help us maintain our properties and keep our housing safe and affordable for seniors. We are incredibly grateful for the dedication they bring to our Society.
As a non-profit organization, maintaining our aging buildings is becoming increasingly challenging. We are actively seeking grants, donations, community partnerships and other sources of funding to help with important maintenance projects and ensure our properties remain safe and comfortable for our residents.
We are also always looking for new board members and volunteers who would like to make a difference in our community. Whether you can offer your time, expertise, fundraising ideas or help us connect with potential funding opportunities, every bit of support makes a difference.

A Heartfelt Thank You
All of us at the Houston Retirement Society would like to extend our sincere thanks to Kas Meerdink of CM Pro Contracting Ltd. and West Fraser Concrete Ltd. for their incredibly generous donation of time and materials.
They removed and replaced a defective concrete patio at one of our units, as well as three side entrance ramps at our buildings, helping to make these areas safer and wheelchair accessible for our residents.
We would also like to extend our sincere appreciation to Brent Long for his generous donation of screened soil, which was used to backfill the project.
We are truly grateful to everyone who contributed their time, materials, and resources to improve our community. Your generosity and kindness have made a meaningful difference to the residents of the Houston Retirement Society.

The HRHS is going to be looking at applying for grants to do some much-needed maintenance to the buildings. If anyone has any ideas for fundraising or possible grants, please let us know on this page.
