Be careful out there!

🌧️ Afternoon Update – Flood Warning in Effect

Persistent rainfall continues across the region and is predicted to let up later tonight. Our crews are actively monitoring rising rivers, creeks, and drainage systems. The BC River Forecast Centre’s notice is now at Flood Warning (Red) for the Fraser Valley, including Hope.

At this time, we do not expect local rivers to breach if the current forecast holds. However, flooding and pooling may occur in localized areas. Our Operations and Emergency Management teams are fully prepared to respond should conditions change. This includes equipment on standby, continuous monitoring, and the ability to scale up response efforts quickly if needed.

⚠️ Safety
• Stay back from fast-moving rivers
• Do not drive through flooded areas
• Clear storm drains near your home if it’s safe to do so

🟫 Sandbags: Pre-filled sandbags remain available at the former “Car Guys” lot (1205 Nelson Avenue) for residents experiencing flooding concerns.

📌 To report pooling water or other concerns:
Submit concerns online: https://hope.ca/p/public-concern-form
Or call: 604-869-5671

📲 Stay Informed: Alertable app • PreparedBC • Environment and Climate Change Canada - Weather • BC River Forecast Centre

We will continue to share updates as the situation develops. Stay safe, stay aware, and check in on neighbours who may need support.

One our biggest supporters is Erica Press. Eric and his staff do a great job of handling our promotional materials for the Hope Chainsaw Carving Event and for Hope Communities in Bloom. This year each carver received a special 2026 carving calendar as shown by Ryan Villiers and judge, Steve Backus. We are truly grateful for their generosity.

We cannot forget to mention our appreciation for Faye and her team at the Blue Moose. Faye generously gave huge trays of tasty sandwiches for the carvers and volunteers. It was an incredibly busy noon hour but Faye was concerned that we had enough! So thoughtful. Thanks a bunch!

Another great corporate citizen is Jag from Panago. Not only did he set up a spot on the grounds, giving away free slices of pizza to sample, but he sent over boxes and boxes of delicious pizza for the carvers and volunteers. Greatly appreciated!

The Hope Standard is to be commended not only for their excellent coverage of the event, but the work before hand, with the schedule, carvers' list and the insert with the carvers' bios. Many thanks to Kemone, Pattie and Christyn. You make us look good!

The Hope Chainsaw Carving event would not happen without the generosity of many local merchants. Here's one example: Sukhi Kang, local Chevron operator, not only brought water and muffins to the park to distribute to the spectators, he provided burgers and fries for lunch from his White Spot location and gave a gift basket to each of the surprised carvers. A thousand thank yous to Sukhi and his crew and a very proud Desiree Jackson, territory manager for Parkland.

Our own Rick Limb generously donated the use of this IT loader which Robin danced around the grounds. It was on the go continuously as volunteers loaded wood scraps and sawdust or moved logs or pallets with carvings. Apparently it was a real time saver. Robin just kept smiling! Thank you, Rick. So appreciated!
