πŸ—žWe are so grateful for the impressive coverage by CBC on our program! Thank you to Maggie and Paul for highlighting our efforts. πŸ“°πŸ“°πŸ“°

This program started when Melody lost her home in the Jasper Fire. At a time when everyone was in grief and distress, she desired to create something good and meaningful in Hinton AND keep food from going to waste. She approached us at the Hinton Food Bank and we created Food Recovery Fridays, and the community loved it. We regularly saw 40 households come through and shop each week. Last night, we had 50. The numbers are growing! The cost of living crisis has made food recovery so essential.

Thank you to our partners at Freson Bros Hinton Hill, Freson Bros Hinton Valley, Safeway, Walmart, Shoppers Drug Mart, Pembina Grocery- Asian Grocery Store, Starbucks, 711, and all other generous donors. We couldn't do it without you! We really appreciate the extra time and care it takes to do food recovery and reclaimation. β€οΈπŸ™

Thank you to Melody Gaboury, Randy Wheeler, Melissa Faulkner, Uncle Brian, the Sister Missionaries, Elders and all other pick up volunteers for getting the food to us! πŸ’ͺπŸ½πŸ’š

Thank you to all on-site volunteers for providing the best customer service; Shirley Caputo, Marianne Pokeda, PJ Oluwapelumi Lawal, Jen Cole, Brigitte Lacroix, Kala Kristen Foley, Alexa Wheeler, Danyelle Opsteen, Margo Sanders, Sarah Howson, Rose Kiesal, Alphia Lachance and so many others!!!

Thank you to Full Circle Hinton for providing an extension of this wonderful program and picking up the extras for distribution at their site 7 days a week!

We are also so grateful for the funding from the Canadian Red Cross, CN, and Servus Credit Union. Thank you!

On Fridays, many volunteers are on-site building hampers and sorting for our Tuesday efforts which makes a BIG difference these days with numbers spiking. Thank you Ewa Arsenault, Matthew McDuff, Daniel Kim and Sarah Howson for your incredible efforts!!!

As you can see, this program is truly !! Hinton, you make us feel so supported--thank you!!! πŸ’™πŸ’™

A huge thank you to Freson Bros Valley for gifting the Hinton Food Bank 8 banana boxes full of apples! 🍎🍎🍎

We are so grateful for this generous donation and for the care shown by Cesar from Produce, who reached out and asked Cyndie to come pick them up before closing. With time being short, she recruited her husband to help, and together they were able to get them to the Food Bank.

Donations like this help us provide fresh, healthy food to individuals and families in our community, and we truly appreciate Freson Valley’s ongoing support of the Hinton Food Bank.

Thank you, Freson Bros Valley and Cesar for helping us feed our community. ❀️

🍜Sometimes the simplest foods can make the biggest difference. πŸ’›

A heartfelt thank you to Conrad from Second Chance for filling our shelves with one of our most needed items; ramen. This donation means so much to us because ramen is easy to prepare, filling, and helpful for so many people and families who come through our doors. It is especially handy for teens to prepare while adults are working. Or, can be done in a microwave if someone is without a whole kitchen. Because of the flexibility, it is a must for our hampers.

And Conrad didn’t just collect it and donate it; he delivered it too. That extra kindness and care means a lot!! Thank you!!!

We are so grateful for community members like Conrad and organizations like Second Chance who continue to show up for the Hinton Food Bank and the people we serve.

Thank you for helping us care for our neighbours.

We know our Operations Support Coordinator Mandi and sorting volunteers will have smiles on their faces to see this incredible donation!! You filled our hearts, Conrad and Second Chance!!!

You are Community helping community.πŸœπŸ’›

May 2026 Hunger Count Summary:

In May 2026, the Hinton Food Bank served 1,122 people through regular weekly hamper service, including 826 adults and 296 children. This represented 512 household visits over the month, with 21 new clients accessing support.

Demand remains significantly higher than last year. In May 2025, the Food Bank served 862 people through 394 household visits. This means that in May 2026, we saw an increase of 260 more people served, 118 more household visits, and 69 more children served compared to the same month last year.

The Hinton Food Bank saw a 30% increase in overall need in May 2026 compared to May 2025. For us, this increase means more food needs to be sourced, sorted, stored, packed, and distributed each week, and it also means greater pressure on our part-time staff, volunteers, donors, and community partners. Most importantly, it shows that more of our neighbours are struggling to meet basic needs and are turning to the Food Bank for support.

Meet Sheila Namisi!πŸ’™

Sheila has been volunteering with the Hinton Food Bank since October 2025, and we are so grateful to have her as part of our team!

Sheila volunteers because she wants to be part of the solution to food insecurity in our community. Hee kindness and dedication are so appreciated!! πŸ’ͺπŸ½πŸ’›

She also shared that a wonderful bonus of volunteering is getting to meet people and build connections. Before coming to Hinton, Sheila lived in Edmonton, and before that, Winnipeg. We are so glad her journey brought her here and that she has chosen to share her time and kindness with our community.

Volunteers like Sheila remind us that food security is a community effort. Every hour given, every hamper packed, and every kind interaction helps create a more welcoming and supportive Hinton.

Thank you, Sheila, for sharing your time and heart with the Hinton Food Bank! You are a beautful example of our motto: community helping community!!

Our volunteers help to put the unity in community!!! πŸ‘·β€β™€οΈπŸ’›
