🩹First Aid Skills Build Stronger Communities

Edson Food Bank staff and volunteers recently completed Red Cross Certified Basic First Aid with Nurse Margo! ❤️❤️❤️

We thoroughly enjoyed spending the day with this incredible group of people who already do so much to care for their community. By learning essential first aid skills, they are now even better prepared to respond when someone needs help.

First aid can save a life; and it can also prevent an injury or medical emergency from becoming more serious. Knowing how to remain calm, recognize when something is wrong, provide immediate care, and seek additional help can make all the difference in those critical first moments.

Thank you to the Edson Food Bank team for your enthusiasm, participation, and continued commitment to making your community safer!

Would your workplace, organization, or volunteer team like to complete first aid training with Nurse Margo? 💛Discounts are available for nonprofit organizations.💛

🌟 Meet Our Newest Team Member: Liberty “Libby” Campbell! 🌟

Libby is brand new to her position as Program Support Worker, but she is certainly not new to HELP. Her journey with our organization began in June 2025, when she joined our MAT Program team.

Today, you can often find Libby’s friendly face at our front desk, where she welcomes community members and helps connect them with HELP’s many programs and services. She also spends half of her time supporting our Day Space, which is open Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to noon and 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. for people experiencing or at risk of experiencing homelessness.

When we asked Libby what motivated her to pursue this work, she shared that her own lived experiences played an important role. Having faced difficult circumstances herself, she understands what it means to struggle and how meaningful it can be when someone responds with empathy rather than judgment.

Libby brings tremendous kindness, compassion and emotional insight to her work. She believes that stigma and misunderstanding continue to shape how people experiencing homelessness are treated.

“The language being used is that we need to keep our communities safe—not that we need to keep our vulnerable community members safe,” Libby explains.

That distinction matters. People experiencing homelessness are not separate from our community; they are members of it. Yet they often live without the protections many of us take for granted. Even leaving a campsite to find food can mean returning to discover that essential belongings have been stolen.

Libby believes meaningful community safety must include everyone; especially those who are most vulnerable. With limited overnight supports available, people need safe places to sleep when temperatures fall. They also need to be met with dignity, understanding and informed compassion; not dismissed, stigmatized or undermined.

Libby is also a trained hairstylist and cosmetologist! During our recent Women’s Wellness Day, she shared her talents by providing hair tinsel extensions! We are excited that she will be able to incorporate her creativity and diverse skills into her work whenever appropriate. 🌟🌟🌟

When asked about HELP’s workplace culture, Libby says she values the flexibility and work-life balance the organization provides. She describes HELP as a comfortable and welcoming environment that feels like a big family.

Creative, thoughtful and deeply empathetic, Libby brings many talents and a genuine heart of gold to her role. We are incredibly grateful to welcome her to this new position. She is a wonderful fit for our team! 💛💛💛

Please join us in welcoming Libby!!! 🎉

🎉 Financial Literacy Basics 2026 is a wrap! 🎉

Thank you to everyone who participated in this year’s series. We were thrilled to welcome 18 learners in total!

Throughout the program, participants developed practical skills in budgeting, managing debt, banking, saving, building emergency funds, smart spending, recognizing fraud and scams, and creating healthier financial habits. These are valuable tools that can support greater confidence, independence, and financial wellness.

A huge thank-you to Alberta Investment Management Corporation for once again sponsoring this important series and helping us offer accessible financial education in our community.

We are also incredibly grateful to our knowledgeable and engaging presenters; Toyin Fannie Sharman, Daniel Kim, and Steph Brown! Thank you for sharing your expertise, answering questions, and creating a welcoming environment where everyone could learn and grow.

Congratulations to all our participants; we hope you leave the series feeling informed, empowered, and ready to put your new skills into action! 💪🏽💚💲
