We offer one-on-one tutoring, skill-building workshops, and a welcoming space for growth and success. Hinton Employment and Learning Place offers all employment related services, such as assistance with resumes, cover letters, work search, interview skills, and other topics which may help you acquire or maintain employment. Services are free and funded by Human Services - Alberta Government. Servi

ces are for adults in Hinton and area who are unemployed or working less than 20 hours a week. We also operate the Community Adult Learning Program which offers lifelong learning opportunities for adults in Hinton and area. One on one and small group tutoring is available in all essential skills including reading, writing, math, communication, computers as well as English as a Second Language.

🃏Numeracy Through Gaming part 2 was a wonderful example of learning in action!🃏

This week, participants explored the card game 99, using play as a pathway to strengthen practical numeracy skills. Games like 99 naturally invite participants to practice mental math, sequencing, estimating, pattern recognition, decision-making, and strategic thinking. These are not abstract skills; they are the same kinds of numeracy skills people use every day when budgeting, shopping, planning, measuring, problem-solving, and making informed decisions.

Gaming also creates a low-pressure learning environment where participants can take risks, learn from mistakes, ask questions, and build confidence alongside others. When learning is social, meaningful, and enjoyable, it becomes more accessible.

🔸️What a fun second night of Numeracy Through Gaming at Hinton Employment & Learning Place! 🃏✨

This week was all about Blackjack! Participants learned how to play, practiced their skills, and built confidence using numeracy in a fun, hands-on way. 🃏🃏🃏

A big thank you to Essential Skills Coach Steph Brown for leading a great discussion and helping everyone connect the game to real-life learning. There was so much laughter, conversation, and connection; the laughs could be heard all the way down the hallway!

HELP also continues to offer a wide range of services for our community, including Settlement Services, English Language Learning, Foundational Learning, employment supports, FASD Support Services, Freddy’s Homeless Resource Room, Freddy’s Day Space, proctoring and invigilation, volunteer opportunities, and more.

Congratulations to Lena Ouellet on receiving the Seniors Lifetime Achievement Award! 🎉

We are incredibly proud to celebrate this well-deserved recognition of Lena's dedication, generosity, and commitment to our community.

Lena is Hinton Employment & Learning Place's Share Shop Coordinator. She leads our Share Shop team and ensures all volunteers are supported. She even created the volunteer potluck when HELP's group is volunteering on a Sunday. Beyond this role, she has devoted countless volunteer hours to supporting others, creating welcoming spaces, and helping ensure that community members have access to the resources they need. Her kindness, compassion, and willingness to lend a hand have touched the lives of so many people in Hinton.
