A diagnosis is not an identity

A person may have FASD, ADHD, autism, learning differences, trauma, anxiety, or another challenge—but no diagnosis tells their whole story. Every individual is more than a list of symptoms, struggles, or school accommodations. Their gifts, dignity, dreams, personality, and future matter too.

Happy FASD Awareness Day!

Today, we join the global community to raise awareness about FASD and support healthy pregnancies.

Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) affects the brain and body in unique ways, creating challenges with learning, memory, attention, emotional regulation, motor skills, and social interactions.

With the right support, individuals with FASD can thrive, contribute meaningfully to their communities, and lead fulfilling lives.

FASD isn't one profession's problem, which is exactly why it keeps falling between all of them.

Teachers — assume can't, not won't.
Doctors — ask about prenatal alcohol exposure.
Midwives — advise early, and without judgement.
Social workers — support families, don't blame them.
Employers — clear routines, a named contact.
Commissioners — implement NICE Quality Standard 204.
All of us — learn the words, share the facts.

We join with sister organisations across the world to say everyone plays a part in preventing, identifying and supporting people with FASD.

Which line is yours? Tell us in the comments.
