☀️ HEAT WAVE ALERT❗
With extreme heat expected, please keep a close eye on your pets — heat stroke can happen fast!
🥵 Higher‑Risk Pets
- Flat‑faced breeds (Bulldogs, Pugs, Shih Tzus, etc.)
- Thick‑coated breeds (Huskies, Shepherds, Great Pyrenees, etc )
- Juvenile or senior pets
- Pets with heart/lung disease
🚨 Signs of Heat Stroke
- Heavy panting
- Bright red or pale gums
- Drooling or vomiting
- Weakness or collapse
🧊 If Your Pet Shows Symptoms
- Move them to a cool, shaded or indoor area
- Offer cool water
- Apply cool (not ice‑cold) water to belly/armpits/groin
- Use a fan to help cooling
- Avoid ice baths
🏥 Go to the Vet Immediately If:
- Panting doesn’t improve
- Gums change colour
- They collapse
- They are slow to respond
- They seem confused
- They vomit
‼️ Important Heat Safety Reminders
- Never leave pets inside hot vehicles — even for a moment. The temperature inside a vehicle can surpass outdoor temperatures and rise to a deadly high in less than 30 minutes!
- Never leave pets tied up outside without shade or a cool place to rest.
- Hydration is of utmost importance! Always have fresh water available, especially if your pet is outdoors.
- Touch surfaces like pavement / asphalt first — if it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for your pet’s paws and can cause burns.
- If spending extended periods of time outside in the heat, consider providing a shallow pool for pets to cool off in.
