Another Saturday in Caléton, Cuba. ❤️🇨🇺❤️

Every week, Pastor Luis, Pastora Norbelis and members of the church community prepare and serve a warm meal to anyone who comes hungry.

Not long ago, thanks to the generosity of many supporters, we were able to purchase food for what we hoped would be a month’s worth of soup kitchens. What we didn’t realize at the time was how many additional people would begin arriving each week. The food has been stretched much further than expected because no one is turned away.

These photos tell the story better than words ever could - children, families, seniors, and neighbours gathered together around a meal and a caring community.

As we look ahead to next Saturday, we are still seeking support to purchase the food needed for the next soup kitchen.

Today we celebrate the birthday of a truly remarkable man.

Pastor Luis is unlike any pastor I have ever met. He doesn’t simply preach about serving others - he lives it everyday.

These photos only capture a small glimpse of who he is. Whether he is working the soil to grow vegetables for the community, walking dusty roads carrying food, visiting families, praying with those in need or preparing meals alongside his church family, he is always thinking of others first.

In fact, yesterday - on the eve of his birthday - he spent the day helping prepare food for today’s community soup kitchen in Caléton.

His life is a beautiful example of what it means to be the hands and feet of Jesus.

Pastor Luis, thank you for your faithfulness, humility and unwavering love for the people you serve. It is a privilege to walk alongside you and witness your faith and love in action.

May the Lord bless you abundantly in the year ahead, strengthen you for the work He has called you to, and fill you with the same joy and hope that you bring to so many others.

Last Sunday, I shared photos of the pastors carrying food through muddy roads to reach the community of Caléton, Cuba.

These are the moments waiting on the other side of that journey.

A pot over an open fire.
Children eating full plates of food.
Elderly neighbours being cared for with dignity.
Simple meals shared in the middle of ongoing shortages and daily blackouts.

What moves me most is that this isn’t a one-time event. Every week, these pastors continue showing up with love, consistency, and whatever they have in their hands.

We would love to keep these soup kitchens going faithfully each week, and we are quietly praying for and looking for monthly supporters who would like to become part of this story to help make sure these meals continue reaching families who need them most.

Thank you for every prayer, share, encouragement, and act of support.

Sometimes love looks like large gestures.

And sometimes it looks like bags of rice on a concrete floor, eggs on a table, shared meals, and enough supplies to continue into another month.

Thank you to every person who has supported Love in Action Cuba through prayers, encouragement, shares and donations. Your kindness is reaching farther than you know.

Even in hard places there are still glimpses of tenderness and joy…including Bruno generously offering himself as a resting place for tiny chickens 🐶🐥

A memory came up today from one of my trips to Caléton, getting supplies ready to share with the community.

Usually by this time in May I’m there alongside the pastors, sharing meals, hugs, prayers, and moments that stay with me forever.

This year, my heart aches not being there. Because of the current flight situation from Canada, I haven’t been able to return, and it’s been incredibly difficult emotionally.

But even from far away the mission continues through the faithful pastors and the kindness of those who continue to support, pray, encourage, and care.

Thank you for helping love reach the community even when I cannot physically be there myself. ❤️
