The Hantsport Memorial Community Centre is pleased to announce that Brian and Shirley Bishop will be serving as the Honorary Parade Marshals for our 2026 Canada Day Grand Street Parade

Brian and Shirley have supported the community of Hantsport in so many ways that it is impossible to list them all. Both were educators in the community, Brian as a principal and Shirley as a guidance counsellor. Brian has served on the Community Center Board and the Board of the Historical Society. His passion for history also led him to write a book about the Hantsport Shamrocks! Brian has been a part of many community projects; he sat on the committee that renewed the pickleball courts in honour of Renda VanderToorn and headed the committee that revitalized Wellwood Hall.

Shirley works behind the scenes on many of Brianโ€™s projects and also has many projects of her own. She organized the Red Hatters Society in Hantsport. She also partnered with others to open the Revival Shop, a free clothing shop that has become a staple of this community. Shirley has also spearheaded the Love Kitchen which helps with food insecurity in Hantsport and offers meals to those who are ill or grieving. Through the love kitchen, Hantsport seniors have received Christmas baskets as well.

As a team, Shirley and Brian have also done much for the community. Together they started the Hantsport Food Bank, which originally ran out of a closet in the Baptist Church! The Food Bank grew a great deal under their leadership and has become a great asset to the community. The Bishops have made a lasting impact on so many lives through their work with refugees. They first got involved with the Vietnamese refugees in the 1970โ€™s and have continued to help others to this day. There are many Ukrainian families who joined our community over the past several years who have been welcomed and had their homes outfitted through the work of Brian and Shirley.

We thank the Bishops for their tireless dedication to our community. Please help us honour them at the Hantsport Canada Day Grand Street Parade, July 1 at 1:00pm.

(Special thanks to Pastor Jenn at Hantsport Baptist Church, who provided the lovely bio & photo.)
