Multiple infractions & years of illegal toxic dumping has put nature & people at risk of contamination. Annapolis Waterkeepers is a volunteer advocacy organization that researches, educates and acts to protect the environmental and public health interests and rights of communities in Annapolis County, mainly with respect to clean water, soil and air on the North Mountain. We seek accountability, t
ransparency and justice from those in positions of power, particularly around the threats of unwelcome and irresponsible commercial development like Arlington Heights C&D Landfill. We are local community members who engage in various public efforts, including citizen science initiatives, in order to help protect the future health and safety of residents, nature and vital ecosystems like wetlands and watersheds which ultimately provide drinking water for citizens.

Our Community Declaration of Universal Environmental Human Rights And Responsibilities -
We declare:
-That our North Mountain Communities are places of rare natural beauty and peace
that presently suffer degradation of Air, Water, and Land, caused by irresponsible social and environmental exploitation;
-That this abuse threatens the health and security of the People and all other living things;
-That there is urgent need to protect and restore the health of our environment, our Community, and all our natural resources for the wise and thoughtful benefit of everyone;
- And, understanding that we are only a few of many environmentally exploited Neighbourhoods, affirm that we must all pledge to each other, our Communities, and our World, a promise to nurture and care for our common Living Spaces. Article 1:
We proclaim and assert the Universal Human Right to Environmental Security. We make this claim on behalf of ourselves, our heirs, and all of Humankind now living or yet to be born. This right is more specifically defined as:
1A. The right to clean Air
1B. The right to clean Water
1C. The right to security of person and quiet enjoyment of property
1D. The right of Community Primacy - we reserve the right to be consulted and the right of neighbourhood approval of desirable development proposals
Article 2:
We further assert and accept the responsibility, individually and together, to nurture, protect, and advocate for these rights by peaceful means. Article 3:
We vow to instruct and require our elected representatives, at all levels of government, to vigorously defend, promote, and enhance these rights. We further instruct and require our representatives to immediately and forcefully redress and restore these rights where they may have been abused. We further vow to enforce these instructions by the application of swift electoral justice.

Our Goals are threefold -
Environmental: Leave the camp cleaner than we found it: protect and preserve our resources for generations to come. Political: Independent Government Departments, not mere environmental wings of the party in power. Social: Motivate shy citizens to stand up for their communities.
