Acres for Hamiota

Acres for Hamiota is a newly formed local committee with a goal of raising funds for our community.

Our objective is to raise funds for existing non-profit organizations as well as funding new projects that would benefit a number of residents.

This week we welcomed the Grade 3 and 4 classes from HES, Manitoba Agriculture and ATP to our Acres For Hamiota field. It was a great morning of learning despite the weather. Students moved through stations learning about soil fertility, weeds, and cereals. We also had a demonstration by ATP doing a tissue test on the crop. Thank you to all who attended it was a very informative and engaging morning!

We would like to make note of two donations missed in our seeding post! Thank you to Richardson Pioneer in Shoal Lake for custom treating our wheat seed and thank you to ATP for donating PreCede which was applied to the seed.

Thank you to Brett McRae of McRae Land and Livestock for seeding the Acres for Hamiota field this weekend, we appreciate the time, equipment and fuel donated towards this. Other donations included seed treatment from Syngenta, fertilizer from Nutrien, and contributions from SeCan.

Our 2026 season is underway! Thank to Brody Robinson of Black Diamond Farms for generously donating the application of anhydrous for our field.
We also had various local producers make contributions towards our fertilizer costs, if this is something you are interested in speak with Redfern Farm Services to purchase a tonne or partial tonne of fertilizer.
Please watch for updates as we hope to have the field seeded in the coming days!

We would like to announce an exciting collaboration between Acres for Hamiota, Hamiota Community Foundation, and Hamiota District Health Foundation Inc. We have donated $2,500 each to STARS to go toward the purchase of a portable ventilator. This portable ventilator is compact and versatile and can be used in a variety of environments such as ambulance, helicopter, and airplanes.

This year our harvest day took place on October 10, we had many gracious volunteers make this day possible! This year our harvest crew included, Firmin Desroches, Allan Soutar, Dwayne and Rylan Kent, Mark and Destin Kinght, Tom Lelond, Brett McCrae and Kevin Kirk.
We had the grade 3 and 4 class out to the field for some hands on learning about soybeans and harvest equipment. The students also made thank you cards for our volunteers with the assistance of Wendy McDonald from Manitoba Pulse and Soybean Growers.
We all enjoyed a delicious beef on a bun lunch with cake made by Country Crocus bakeshop for dessert.
