The Scottish Rite Charitable Foundation of Canada

The Scottish Rite Charitable Foundation of Canada The Foundation labours for the benefit of all Canadians, regardless of race or creed. The Foundation is governed by the Officers and Directors.

The aim of the Foundation as listed in the Letters Patent is to “make grants for charitable purposes to any educational or other charitable organizations, which carries on its work solely within Canada”. Background of the Foundation

The Scottish Rite Charitable Foundation of Canada is a private charitable Foundation registered with Revenue Canada under Letters Patent of Incorporation (1964), fund

ed by donations and bequests from the 26,000 members of The Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry of Canada. Over the years millions of dollars have been disbursed to assist dedicated researchers in a search for the causes and cure of intellectual impairment. The Work of the Foundation

The aim of the Foundation as listed in the Letters Patent is to “make grants for charitable purposes to any educational or other charitable organizations, which carries on its work solely within Canada”. The Foundation has been since its conception and continues to be, an example of benevolence without ostentation and assistance without self-interest. From its incorporation, the Foundation has concentrated its efforts in support of research into the causes of and hopefully, the eventual cure of intellectual impairment, especially as it affects children and persons of advanced years in the form of Alzheimer’s Disease. The Foundation concentrates its assistance in focused areas of research into the causes of intellectual impairment. Research grants support research into the causes of the disease as opposed to active treatment or palliative care. Graduate Student awards may also support research into active treatment or palliative care. The Scottish Rite Foundation Logo

The logo of the Scottish Rite Foundation combines two elements: the Masonic triangle and a maze containing a stylized human form. The triangle is a symbol of the Deity used around the world. The maze symbolizes the complex road to unravelling the puzzles of intellectual impairment. The stylized human at the end of the maze suggests the perfectibility of humankind. The Grants and Awards Programme

The Grants and Awards Committee of the Foundation, annually approves the awarding of over $420,000 in major research grants in support of studies relating to intellectual impairment. The Awards Program focuses it’s funding on Research Grants of $35,000 to support Biomedical research into intellectual impairment especially as it affects children and the causes and cure of Alzheimer’s Disease and other neurodegenerative diseases. The Scottish Rite Charitable Foundation Learning Centre for Children

The Scottish Rite Charitable Foundation has decided to develop its Learning Centres program based on the long and successful experience of the US Scottish Rite jurisdictions, where over 200 Centres are now in operation. The Canadian program is based on the one in the Rite’s Northern Masonic Jurisdiction, which addressed only the remedial tutoring of children with dyslexia. For more information on this program just click on the following link to be taken to the Learning Centres.

Today is World Dyslexia Awareness Day — a time to celebrate the strengths, advocate for support, and shine a light on the often invisible challenges people with dyslexia face.

Did you know that dyslexia is a neurological difference that affects word recognition, spelling, and decoding—not intelligence? Many with dyslexia can thrive when given the right tools and support.

One incredible initiative making change is the SRCF Learning Centres. These centres offer free, one-to-one tutoring using the Orton-Gillingham approach to help children with dyslexia learn to read. Tuition, training for tutors, and all services are provided at no cost to families.

💜 Let’s amplify support for inclusive learning.
💜 Let’s talk openly about dyslexia and fight stigma.
💜 Let’s support programs like SRCF’s so no child is left behind because of how their brain works.
