As we are in the full swing of the holiday season we must remember to enjoy the moment, appreciate the people in our life and remember that it’s ok to take a little extra time ⏰

Whether you are going out to celebrate or you are hosting, having extra patience and giving extra time during the holidays not only helps our loved one feel supported it really does make the holidays more inclusive and enjoyable.

As we know routines are very important to our loved ones. It is a good idea to keep as much of it as possible. While maintaining your regular routine would be difficult due to holiday hours and closures, try to keep as much of it as you can. This is different for everyone but could mean foods, activities and sleeping routines. So if you are going to a gathering and these things affect your routine it might be best to bring some food and activities. You may want to let your guest know you may need to leave earlier.

“This holiday season, give yourself permission to pause. Let go of the pressure to do it all, and create traditions that fit your family’s rhythm. Celebrate how far you’ve come. Your children will remember how they felt—loved, safe, and seen—not the number of events you attended or the gifts under the tree.”

The holidays are fast approaching, and while some families have been getting into the spirit many of our families struggle this time of year. We wanted to offer some suggestions, tips and resources that might be helpful during this busy season.

If you are celebrating one of the many holidays and you haven’t started already; it is best to introduce your loved one to the idea early. Social stories of what to expect; sensory calendars or calendars that count down, videos, books and games are a few suggestions that help our loved one to engage with the idea slowly and can be tailored to their needs.

Being inclusive and accommodating does not mean you can not have your holiday fun. It just means some things may change and that’s ok! Some of the sounds, sights and smells during the season are nostalgic, warm and magical to us but may be a sensory nightmare for our loved one. If they can; have them pick out their favourite holiday music and or movie for everyone to enjoy. Bright flashing lights might be too much; a uniform, warm, calming glow can be used to avoid overstimulation. You may have to adapt your decorations to be less stimulating and you may have to remove some of the seasonal scents that are prominent this time of year, but creating an atmosphere that is inclusive for everyone will benefit all.

“Many aspects of the busy holiday season can be very challenging for autistic and neurodivergent folks. To lighten the load and protect mental health, put accommodations in place, let go of expectations, set boundaries and make new traditions”

Honouring Día de los Mu***os 🕯️

Today, we open our hearts to remember — those we have loved, those we have lost, and those who still walk beside us in spirit.

Rooted in Mexican tradition, Día de los Mu***os (Day of the Dead) is a beautiful celebration of life, love, and remembrance — a time when families welcome the souls of their loved ones home with light, colour, and gratitude. 🌼

In our community, love transcends time and form. It lives on in the laughter we recall, the lessons we carry, and the warmth that still lingers long after goodbye.

We honour all kinds of connections and caregivers — family members, friends, mentors, and beloved animal companions. Each one has shaped who we are and how we love. 💛

We invite you to share a photo, a memory, or a name in our messages or comments. We’ll be creating a community ofrenda in our Stories — a shared space of remembrance and light. ✨

Share as much or as little as you’d like. Every story, every soul, belongs here. 🌼

Because love, once shared, never truly leaves. 💫
