The reality of being a small business owner and a mom... ❀️

People always ask about "work-life balance," but the truth is, for many of us, there really isn't one. It's all beautifully intertwined.

Today, I'm updating our website from the truck while my daughter is at her riding lesson, my toddler is catching a nap in the back seat, and as soon as he's awake, we're off to soccer practice.

The emails don't stop. The ideas don't stop. The mom duties don't stop.

This season of life is messy, busy, exhausting, rewarding, and filled with moments like these. Sometimes my office is my kitchen table. Sometimes it's the passenger seat of my truck. (Anyone else bring their laptop everywhere with them on the off chance there's some time to work? πŸ˜…)

This is what chasing a dream while raising little humans looks like.

Not glamorous. Not perfectly balanced. Just doing my best, one day at a time.

To all the parents building businesses while raising families, I see you. Keep going. 🀍

Ontario Vendors ⚠️

We understand that air quality is currently under an Orange Air Quality Warning and is expected to worsen over the coming days. Our thoughts are with everyone affected by the fires, and we hope those impacted remain safe.

The health and safety of our vendors, customers, and communities is our top priority. We are actively monitoring conditions and, where possible, moving markets indoors or making adjustments as needed.

If you are registered for an outdoor market this weekend, please keep a close eye on your email, as we will continue to provide updates as conditions change. We appreciate your patience, understanding, and flexibility as we work to make the best decisions for everyone involved.

Thank you for being part of our community.

A little dream that became so much more...

When I started The Mom Market, Milania was just a toddler.

I wasn't trying to build a national company.

I was simply a mom who believed moms in small business deserved a place to shine.

Little did I know...
This dream would change my life.

One market turned into another.
Then another.
Then another.

Before I knew it...

The Mom Market had grown into more than 30 communities across Canada.

Together we supported thousands of small businesses and built something I never imagined possible.

While The Mom Market was growing...

So was my family.

We moved across three provinces.

My husband faced two major surgeries and long recoveries.

We homeschooled.

Then came our sweet little surprise...
Rocco. 🀍

Life never slowed down.
It simply kept growing alongside the business.

Most people see market day.

The smiling vendors.

The shoppers.

The music.

The finished event.

But behind every market are countless hours of work.

Late nights.

Early mornings.

Emails.

Marketing.

Venue meetings.

Vendor approvals.

Invoices.

Payments.

Planning.

Problem solving.

Packing.

Unpacking.

Setting up.

Cleaning up.

It's been a labour of love every single step of the way.

Multiply that by supporting 30 locations.

This past year has been one of the most challenging seasons of my life.

Personally.

Professionally.

Emotionally.

As the company continued to grow, I realized I was trying to be everywhere at once.

Founder.
CEO.
Market Director.
Marketing.
Customer Service.
Accounting.
Mom.
Wife.
Teacher.
And more.

And somewhere in there...

I forgot I was only one person. I found myself trying to balance a business that I've poured my heart and soul into for the past seven years while also trying to give my family the very best of me.

The truth is...

My family has always been, and always will be, my number one priority.

But I reached a point where I realized I wasn't able to give either the business or my family the version of me they deserved.

I was constantly being pulled in two directions.

Trying to be fully present at home while carrying the weight of a growing national business.

Trying to be the leader our vendors

A letter from my heart 🀍

This has been one of the hardest posts I've ever written.

For the past seven years, The Mom Market has been so much more than a business to me. It's been part of my family. It's grown alongside my children, and in many ways, it's grown me too.

When I started The Mom Market, Milania was just a toddler. I was a mom with a dream, hoping to create opportunities for local businesses and build a community where women could support one another.

I never imagined that one little market would become more than 30 market communities across Canada.

I never imagined we'd support thousands of small businesses, celebrate countless milestones, weather a global pandemic together, and become the only company of our kind in Canada.

Every market, every vendor, every Market Director, every venue partner, every shopper, every sponsor, every smile, every hug, every story... you have all become part of this journey.

Thank you.

Over the past seven years, life has changed in so many beautiful ways.

We've moved across three provinces.

My husband has faced major surgeries and recoveries.

We've continued homeschooling.

We welcomed our sweet little Rocco into our family.

And through it all, The Mom Market kept growing.

So did the responsibilities.

Like many small business owners, I found myself wearing every hat imaginable.

Founder.

CEO.

Market Director.

Marketing.

Customer service.

Accounting.

Event planning.

Social media.

Problem solving.

Mom.

Wife.

Teacher.

Somewhere along the way, I convinced myself that working harder was always the answer.

But this past year has taught me something incredibly important.

Sometimes growth doesn't mean doing more.

Sometimes growth means becoming more intentional.

I know some of you have experienced slower communication, delayed payments, or longer wait times than you've come to expect from us.

For that, I sincerely apologize.

As our company grew, so did the complexity behind the scenes. We began processing an incredible number of transactions every week, and over the past several months we've been transitioning banking and payment systems after dealing with repeated *c'ntd in commnts*

βœ… TAKE MY MONEY! πŸ’Έβœ¨

Beautiful displays. Clear signage. Products easy to browse. Vendor is smiling and engaging. Customers can't wait to stop and shop.

VS.

❌ ARE THEY EVEN OPEN? πŸ€”

Vendor hiding behind the table. Phone glued to their hand. No prices. No signage. Half the products still in bins.

Your booth doesn't need to be Pinterest-perfect, but it should invite people in, not make them wonder if you're packing up. πŸ˜…

Remember: shoppers make a decision in just a few seconds. Make those seconds count!
