WUSC is a leading Canadian not-for-profit organization in international development for over 60+ years. We work to create a world where all young people can grow up in safe, secure and supportive environments; where they can learn, work and play a vital role in their country’s development. WUSC works with partners to strengthen education systems, expand employment opportunities, and improve lives.

We have development initiatives in 20+ countries in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. There are over 75 Local Committees across Canada and 5 International Local Committees (in Burkina Faso and Ghana). The McMaster Local Committee is a campus-based group of students, faculty, and staff who support WUSC's programs, campaigns, and promote understanding of international development issues on campus and in the Hamilton community. At McMaster, our main focus is the Student Refugee Program (SRP), the only sponsorship program in the world that combines educations with resettlement. Over 1500 students have been sponsored to Canada since 1978. Every school year, we sponsor a student from a refugee country to study for 4 years in an undergraduate program. We also assist in providing financial, academic, emotional, and day-to-day settlement support. In recent years, we have welcomed many students from Malawi, Kenya, and Syria. This September 2015, we were proud to welcome a Syrian student from in a Jordan refugee camp to McMaster!
