It's Assyrian New Year. Commonly referred to as Akitu and as Kha b’Nissan, it is the most important Assyrian national holiday and also celebrates the start of Spring. Today is marked by festivals, parades, and parties including the tradition of stringing flowers and herbs from rooftops of homes.

The Bet Nahrain Assyrian Heritage Centre is excited to announce that registration for our 2026 Assyrian Dance Classes is now OPEN! 📣

If you would like your child to participate in the dance performances at this year’s Nusardil Festival, taking place Sunday, July 12, 2026 in Hamilton, please register them for dance classes via the link below.

On Saturday, September 13, 2025, we will gather at Pine Crest Event Centre to honour the late legendary Evin Agassi - a voice that carried the struggles, pride, and hopes of generations of Assyrians. 🌹🎶

The evening will be introduced by his son Brynner Agassi and his brother Gewargis Agassi, with a special performance by the talented Janelle Yausif, bringing his legacy to life through song. 💙

Today, we honour the memory of the countless Assyrian men, women, and children who gave their lives for our faith, our culture, and our identity. From Simele to Seyfo and beyond, our history is marked by unimaginable loss — but also unbreakable resilience.

We remember not only their suffering, but their courage.
We mourn, but we also stand proud.
We carry their legacy forward — in our voices, in our unity, and in our continued fight for recognition, justice, and preservation.

May their memory be eternal.
