Giving Means Honduras: Fe y Esperanza / Faith and Hope Giving Means project for crafts microenterprise for people in Honduras living with HIV & AIDS

In Santa Rosa de Copan, Honduras, there is a support group named “Fe y Esperanza” (Faith and Hope) run by and for people living with HIV & AIDS. Faced with discrimination, and few educational opportunities, the people in this group experience barriers to employment that have a negative impact on their physical and emotional health. A group of 7 youth plan to work with the support group to train it

s members in the production and sale of arts and crafts such as: embroidery, sewing, as well as card- and jewellery-making. Not only will this provide income for the group members, but it will also contribute to overall health and wellbeing. The project is supported by local organizations and the local government. The project will provide:
-Training in arts and crafts, teamwork, business management
-Space and materials to produce the crafts
-Mental health support and occupational therapy services
-Income generation for people living with HIV & AIDS

People living with HIV & AIDS will manage the production and sale of their own arts and crafts as a source of income and self-employment. They will contribute to the social and cultural development of their community, and preserve traditions. Improved economic circumstances will also improve the overall health and wellbeing of members of the support group.
