Dementia Empowerment Network The Dementia Empowerment Network brings people living with memory changes together for connection and shared leadership.

Happy Earth Day 🌎

Today served as a reminder to appreciate the place we call home and the spaces that bring us together, including gardens, parks, chats outdoors, and the simple moments of connection Mother Earth offers us.

Hoping everyone had a peaceful Earth Day.

Every group experience is different and hearing directly from people with lived experience reminds us why these spaces matter.

The Dementia Empowerment Network is built on connection, shared understanding, and creating spaces where people living with memory changes can feel supported, included, and surprised in the best ways. 💙

The DEN attended the 3rd Annual Sackville Senior Wellness Fair last Thursday!

It was great to see so many people (300+!!) come together for one common goal: to promote the health and wellness of older adults in the local community.

We collaborated with community members and partners about our growing network of social groups shaped by and for people living with memory changes, including dementia, creating a place for shared experience, empowerment, and belonging.

It was meaningful to see how many people are working toward the same goal. Thank you Sackville for having us!

Happy St. Patrick’s Day from the Dementia Empowerment Network ☘️

Over the years, our groups have created spaces for connection, conversation, and support among people living with memory changes and care partners.

March is Brain Health Awareness Month in Canada!

Social connection is one of the factors that supports brain health and cognitive wellbeing across our lifespan. Research has shown that staying socially engaged can help protect against the negative health impacts and support overall wellbeing.

At the Dementia Empowerment Network (DEN), peer-led groups bring people living with memory changes together to connect, share experiences, and support one another.

These gatherings create welcoming spaces where people can stay involved in their communities and build meaningful relationships with others who understand their experiences.

The YWCA Hamilton Winter Wellness Fair was a wonderful day in the community.

We had the opportunity to connect with older adults, care partners, and local organizations who are committed to supporting the health and wellbeing of seniors in our neighbourhoods.

Having one of our group members with lived experience join and share their voice, along with the support of care partners, is what makes this work meaningful and empowerment based.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by our table and took the time to connect with us. Thanks to our partner Alzheimer Society of Brant, Haldimand Norfolk, Hamilton Halton for allowing us to share dementia-inclusive resources locally.
