Proud to have attended the 2026 Millwright Regional Council Annual General Meeting in beautiful British Columbia, hosted by UBC Millwrights Local 2736.

Over the course of the AGM, delegates from across the Council had the opportunity to hear firsthand about the successes of the past year, the challenges we have overcome together, and the opportunities that lie ahead. The discussions reinforced our shared commitment to growing market share, expanding training opportunities, strengthening contractor partnerships, and creating more work opportunities for our members.
I am honoured to stand alongside the MRC Executive Committee as we turn these discussions into reality and continue building a stronger future for our entire membership.

By the time a project needs its crew, many of the decisions that shape its workforce have already been made.
Bringing the MRC into planning early creates time to forecast labour needs, connect contractors with experienced Millwrights, and identify opportunities for apprentices to develop.
The workforce conversation belongs at the beginning.

Honouring Our Past. Building Our Future

This Labour Day, the streets of Hamilton were filled with pride as active Millwrights, retirees, family members, future tradespeople, and even one hard-working four-legged friend in a hard hat marched together in the 2026 Hamilton Labour Day Parade.

Labour Day is more than a celebration. It is a reminder of the generations of workers who fought to improve the lives of working families across Ontario. Through the strength of unions, workers won safer workplaces, fair wages, pensions, benefits, apprenticeship opportunities, and the workplace rights many Canadians rely on today.

Ontario's labour movement has deep roots. From the skilled trades and manufacturing sectors to construction and heavy industry, union members stood together to demand fairness, dignity, and respect on the job. Their determination helped shape organized labour across Canada and built the foundation for stronger workplaces and communities.

Today, we proudly carry that legacy forward.

The Millwright Regional Council and UBC Millwrights Local 1916 continue to lead the way by investing in the next generation of skilled tradespeople, delivering world-class training, advocating for workers' rights, and ensuring our members remain among the most highly skilled and productive professionals in the industry.

The faces in today's parade tell our story: dedicated members, proud retirees who built our foundation, children who represent our future, and families who stand behind us every step of the way. Together, we are proof that the labour movement is not just history. It is alive, growing, and stronger than ever.

UBC Millwright Local 1916 was proud to welcome Millwright Regional Council Executive Secretary-Treasurer Brother Mark Beardsworth, Chief of Staff Drew Chittenden, Director of Operations Duncan McIntosh, and Director of Organizing Steve Laur to our Local.

Our members had the opportunity to participate in a great Q&A session with the Council’s executive team, discussing the future of our trade, the direction of our organization, and important pension improvements for both active and retired members. The open dialogue and valuable insights provided a clear vision of where we are headed and the opportunities that lie ahead for Millwrights across our region.

A sincere thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to the discussion. The engagement and commitment shown by our members continue to strengthen our Brotherhood.

The future looks bright for the Millwrights, and together we will continue building on the strong foundation of our trade and union.
