On May 13, the tenant union of 221 St. Joseph’s Drive visited their landlord’s office in Woodbridge to drop off an ACORN letter. The address was a law firm under a different name, and the office was closed — so the letter was taped to the door, along with a dead cockroach from the building.
Tenants have been living with numerous issues, including pests, insufficient heating and cooling, maintenance problems, access to garbage and recycling, safety issues, and a lack of communication from their landlord.
Residents first requested a meeting to address these issues on March 16. The landlord was initially cooperative, but later declined to meet. After multiple follow-ups and more than six weeks of silence, we received a single reply on April 28 from Mark Gonneau, Co-Founder and Director of Real Estate, stating: "We have addressed the tenants' concerns; as far as I'm aware, there is no longer a reason to meet." The tenant union, through ACORN, replied with photo evidence of the unresolved concerns and reiterated the request to meet.
