📣For the past 6 weeks, 23 households at 34 Mistywood have united to respond to the proposed redevelopment of their homes.

Stoney Creek Community Homes is applying to the City of Hamilton planning committee to approve an Urban Hamilton Official Plan Amendment and a Zoning By-law Amendment to demolish 28 affordable townhomes and build a 6 story 128 unit apartment.

34 Mistywood is home to young families, adults and children with disabilities, seniors and households on a fixed income. Many of the households have lived at Mistywood for 10-20+ years‼️

The tenant union is calling for a strong tenant relocation plan & community benefits from the project. ✊

Hamilton ACORN has officially launched H.O.P.E. – Hamilton Organizing to Prevent Evictions!

Today, 30 ACORN members and supporters marched from the Housing Help Centre to City Hall to demand a stronger Housing Emergency Fund (HEF).

After surveying members, consulting with community allies, and researching similar programs across Canada, we're calling on the City to:
-Raise the income threshold
-Cover moving costs and damage caused by bed bugs
-Better support tenants facing Above Guideline Increase (AGI) arrears
-Increase promotion so more people know the program exists

Today we delivered our campaign report and demand letter to both the Housing Help Centre, which administers the HEF, and the Mayor's Office, calling on the City to review and strengthen the program after 2.5 years.

"Freelton RV park residents face nearly 50 days under boil water advisory"

"By the end of this week, the 100 or so residents at Fernbrook will have gone 50 days without clean water."

"The Mountain chapter of ACORN, a tenant rights group supporting Hamilton-area renters, has been advocating for the Fernbook residents. The group called on Linwood Parks “to provide bottled drinking water, accommodations for showering, washing dishes, and cooking while the water remains unsafe, as well as compensation for the loss of this essential service.”"

“I'm just exhausted from begging. I'm begging for my own services,” Kovacs said.

"ACORN has asked the company for a rent reduction for residents for the months spent without water, because their amenities are not being delivered"

Check out the FlamboroughToday article on lack of clean water at Fernbrook Resort.

Paul Colvin at Linwood Parks, owner of Fernbrook Resort (Events & Info) has still failed to address the issue.
