gritLIT is thrilled to be included in the Dundas Museum and Archives 70th Anniversary Exhibition!

2026 marks 70 years since the DM+A began! To celebrate, they are hosting a feature exhibition from April 24th to September 13th. Displaying artifacts hand-selected by local community members, this event showcases many Dundas stories.

For our contribution, gritLIT chose an 1880 Portable Writing Desk.

“This wooden writing desk immediately struck me for its beauty and artistry; however, I was also drawn to the stories that must be behind it,” says Jessica Rose, gritLIT Artistic Director.

So, come see it for yourself! And check out gritLIT’s table at the DM+A’s Made in Dundas event TOMORROW!

Do you collage? Write poems? We’d love to know!

In her new collection of poetry, award-winning and internationally acclaimed author, Camilla Gibb, shows us how combining both can result in a brilliant anthology of art. I Used to Be a Pisces is itself, as poems interspersed with collages, a collection of pieces glued and meticulously crafted together, a beautiful and thoughtful array of imagery, a book of poetry simply incomplete without its free swirling of literary and visual art.

At , Gibb brought us behind the scenes of collage creation in her workshop, Everyone Can Collage with Camilla Gibb at the Art Gallery of Hamilton. Encouraging every attendee to embody their artistic side, without the need for professional talent, Gibb brought forth an open and inviting smattering of paper and scissors and glue, creating a space for fun and the purest of artistic expression. She taught us of the different mediums that can be used in collage, the importance of editing, and the technique of silhouette collage, all while crafting a room buzzing in conversation, connection and creation.

It was an event as inherently creative and freeing as collage itself, and we are thrilled to have facilitated such a talented author and expressive event.

Thank you so much to the Art Gallery of Hamilton and the incite Foundation for the Arts for making this event possible.

Do you have a memory of an author visiting your school? We'd love to hear it!

During , we were thrilled to bring Sarah Mughal Rana, the instant Sunday Times and USA Today bestselling author of the fantasy trilogy Dawn of the Firebird, to Westdale Secondary School as part of our Authors in Schools initiative.

Authors in Schools helps attract, encourage and facilitate youth interest in literature, enthuse young people about their futures, and offer them advice and relatability in an intimate and tangible way.

And at Westdale Secondary School, Sarah Mughal Rana did just that, recounting the steps and experiences she journeyed through on the way to becoming who she is today — from debate team to travel to taking chances. Her charisma, eloquence and relatability poured out of her presentation as she discussed how vital and integral creativity is, encouraged every student to express the poet inside them, and lamented how due dates are the death of us all (herself included)!

It was an incredible event, and we are so happy to have had Sarah join us and showcase the benefits of Authors in Schools!

Anyone else as awed as we are about Wild People Quiet’s incredible beadwork cover? The cover was designed by multidisciplinary Métis artist, Katherine Boyer, who holds an MFA from the University of Manitoba. She creates work that encompasses family, Métis history, material culture and architectural spaces, and explores boundaries between opposing things to better understand both sides.

And did you know that Boyer also gave Tara Gereaux her first beading lesson ever? A full-circle moment hidden within the fluid, stunning front cover of this powerful new novel!

Now are you excited for Wild People Quiet: In Conversation with Tara Gereaux at the Art Gallery of Hamilton? It’s the perfect chance to celebrate a "story as exquisite and beautiful as the beadwork detailed on its pages” (Helen Humphreys) AND to enjoy the AGH's exhibit mīgisak mīgohk / Beads in the Blood: A Ruth Cuthand Retrospective before the talk.

Get your tickets now! You'll be able to buy a copy of this extraordinary book onsite from Epic Books. https://www.gritlit.ca/offseason-events/wild-people-quiet-in-conversation-with-tara-gereaux
