I recently participated in a phone meeting with city staff regarding our denied funding application. It was the city staff that made the decision to deny our funding. Thirty years ago, SPRC Hamilton was seeking programming opportunities in our area, under the guidance of Dedrie Pike. We held meetings at the Concession St Library, and the city offered us the use of the Eastmount Community Centre. Although the centre was deemed surplus by the city, we commenced our program in March 1999 and took pride in maintaining the centre for our community. As a child, I spent time at the centre with my twin brother and younger sister. I undertook this project to support the community and families in creating an active centre. Over the past 27 years, Mountain Kidz has experienced its share of challenges, but we have persevered to provide for our community. We have been fortunate to have faithful volunteers, community support, and donations from those who believe in our mission. Notably, we have achieved all of this without relying on grants. We took pride in our ability to self-finance our organization, thanks to the support of our community. Unfortunately, I am no longer in a position to support our organization financially. Each time we utilize the centre, we incur permit and insurance fees. We are currently awaiting the renewal of our permit for our school supply program. Does anyone have an alternative location that we could use to host this program?

💜Tell us something positive that happened to you this weekend! 💜

It can be something big, like watching your child graduate, celebrating a milestone, or accomplishing a goal you've worked hard for.

Or it can be something like getting out of bed on a difficult day, doing the dishes, taking a walk, making someone smile, or simply making it through. That matters too!
Let's fill this post with good things.

One positive thing that happened for us was a reminder of just how much kindness surrounds us. Sometimes it's easy to focus on the few voices that are negative, but this weekend reminded us that those voices are greatly outnumbered by the people who show up with compassion, encouragement, and support.
We get to choose the atmosphere here, and we've worked hard to make this a safe, welcoming, judgment-free space. While I'm still learning not to let negativity get under my skin, this weekend reminded me that kindness will always be louder than hate when we choose to amplify it.

So now it's your turn... What is something positive that happened to YOU this weekend?

I would like to extend my gratitude to everyone who participated in the Annual Concessions Fest. As Giggles the clown, I have been a part of this event since its inception. It is a delightful community gathering. Volunteers dedicate considerable effort to organize this annual community event. Thank you, Doris and your team of volunteers. It was a pleasure to see you all at our Mountain Kidz booth. I appreciate the hard work of all volunteers.
