John Holland Institute for Leadership

John Holland Institute for Leadership John C. Holland Institute for leadership was founded in 2008. They will become focused on achieving their goals.

Its major program," Lifting as We Climb Mentorship is designed to help youth in a professionally supported one on one relationship. The JCHIL seeks to support black youth who needs special help in becoming who they were meant to be. We believe that volunteers in the mentorship program provide the too often "missing link" in the lives of these youth. The youth will be able to take their rightful p

lace in this world and contribute to the welfare of their families, schools and community. Our mentors will help our black youth identify who they are and help them determine how to pursue their goals.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Music at Fieldcote and Griffin House Presents:
Glory and Freedom: Emancipation Day Celebration

Hamilton, ON. – July 14, 2015 – Music at Fieldcote, in collaboration with the Griffin House, The Ancaster Ministerial Association, Stewart Memorial Church and The Hamilton Black History Committee are proud to present “Glory and Freedom: Emancipation Day Celebration” on Sunday August 2, 2015. For many years, the Canadian government has officially designated August 1 as “Emancipation Day” in commemoration of the abolition of slavery throughout the British Empire on August 1, 1834.

Starting at 2:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m, the day will be filled with a wide range of performances from dancers, singers, poetry slammers, drummers and performances about the Underground Railroad for the entire family. The afternoon will also feature a BBQ, free parking and a shuttle service throughout the afternoon between venues. Admission to this event is free.

The celebration will be held at historical Fieldcote Memorial Park and Museum as well as the Griffin House, the 1830’s restored home of Enerals Griffin, an early Black Settler who, according to legend, escaped slavery and found his way to Ancaster. Fieldcote Memorial Park & Museum is located at 64 Sulphur Springs Road in Ancaster. Parking will be available at the nearby Ryerson United Church parking lot and Memorial School.

Please join us in Ancaster as we commemorate this community’s African Canadian heritage, the sacrifices and triumph of African Canadians, the contributions they have made to our society over 300 years and the ongoing struggle for human rights. “Emancipation Day remains a significant commemoration in our community—it’s a symbol of the triumph of good over evil and we are pleased to be a part of this artistic celebratory program –“ Freedom and Glory”,an important part of the 2015 Fieldcote Music Series.” Says Evelyn Myrie, Chair of Hamilton Black History Committee. "The Ancaster Ministerial Association is comprised of a dozen churches and our desire is to love and serve this great community. To that end, this year we have partnered with Music at Fieldcote …we're thrilled with how Glory and Freedom has taken shape and are excited to be a part of this great event." commented Reverend Aaron Gerrard, the Chair of the Ancaster Ministerial Association.
