At Mohawk College, Environmental Sustainability is one component of our overall sustainability efforts. Along with social and financial sustainability, our environmental sustainability is a cornerstone of our Strategic Plan. We feel it is our responsibility to work alongside our community, businesses, other Colleges and Universities, and individuals to promote environmental awareness and sustainab

ility. For decades, we have been reducing our impact on the planet and as we move forward, we are creating policies that ensure a prosperous future for generations to come.

We are thrilled to announce the launch of Friendlier containers at our residence cafeteria. Now students can enjoy the food they love, without the waste!

How does it work?

Students get their meal served in a Friendlier reusable container.

They can scan the QR code on the container to track their impact and claim their deposit.

When finished, students return the container to a collection bin that can be found around the cafeteria.

Students can claim their deposit through the Friendlier app or website or donate it to a local charity!

Come try it out today!

2. Access the Secure Bike Cage using the access card from the Library

3. Enjoy a bike and helmet for up to 72 hours (3 days)

4. Return the bike, helmet, access card and key to the Library at Fennell campus and complete the Bike Return Checklist

*A note - Loans are for 3 days but can be renewed depending on demand and availability*

Let us know if you’re looking forward to trying out the Bike Loan Program or if you have any questions. 🚲

📢Coming to a waste station near you… The WasteFinder Pilot Project! 📢
♻️What is WasteFinder? ♻️
WasteFinder is a series of tactile signage indicators that are placed on the ground surrounding waste stations. It assists individuals who are blind or experience low-vision to independently and effectively dispose of their waste in public spaces!
♻️How did the WasteFinder project come to Mohawk? ♻️
Mohawk Alumni, Emilee Schevers, submitted the project to the Sustainability Office’s Sustainability Initiatives Fund (SIF) Ideabank where it was successfully chosen to pilot!
♻️How will WasteFinder impact campus? ♻️
💚It will improve accessibility on campus
💚It will foster social inclusion around campus
💚It will increase waste diversion on campus
💚It will help bridge the gap between accessibility and sustainability
♻️Where can I find a WasteFinder on campus? ♻️
WasteFinder will be piloted at these 3 locations at the Fennell Campus:
1. Cafeteria Waste Station – lower level, C-Wing
2. C-Wing main entrance between Tim Horton’s and McIntyre Theatre
