We are pretty sure that the 2026 Fall Convention is one that Ben Sproule will never forget!

He started the weekend on Friday night with a show-stopping set with his quartet, Chromatic Aberration. On Saturday morning, he had his first taste as a director on the contest stage and led us to a 6th place finish after just 10 weeks as our conductor.

That afternoon, he rushed from the Harbourtown evaluations back to work with the quartet and wowed the crowd with another great set in the afternoon. There was a buzz in the knowledgeable crowd about the performance and sure enough, the judges agreed and Chromatic Aberration was crowned the District champions!

Let’s hear it for Ben!!!

Only two more sleeps until we are back on an Ontario District - Barbershop Harmony Society stage for the first time in three years!

Midnight Sound is a re-boot of the quartet 1001: A Barbershop Oddity. David Bolan, Derek Stevens, and Dan Locke learned that former Gummee Boyz singer John Hofnagel now lives in their area and he is now singing a great lead line for this foursome.

Chromatic Aberration is Jake Dunbar, Erin Smythe, Ben Wright, and our director Ben Sproule! This entertaining foursome performed for the chorus earlier this fall and will no doubt be "in the medals" again after Saturday night's performance.

The Paris Accord are the spring senior champs in the province and are hoping to get a return invitation to the Barbershop Harmony Society Midwinter contest. They finished 15th at the 2026 worlds and Doug Lemon, Chris Starkey, Dan Locke, and John Wilkie are hoping to book their ticket to Virginia Beach.

With a 6th place placement in the spring contest, In Season is no doubt eyeing a top-5 finish this weekend. Dave Bolan, Bill Vermue, Derek Stevens, and Tom Sziklasi won the right to represent the province at Midwinter in Pasadena last year and are gunning for a repeat visit to the BHS world seniors' contest!

If you prefer the former, come check us out some Wednesday evening! We rehearse at St. James United Church Waterdown starting at 7:30. If you come this fall, you will be able to join us on stage for our show, "A Gift of Harmony" on Saturday, November 28th!

The City of Hamilton where we rehearse each week is situated upon the traditional territories of the Erie, Neutral, Huron-Wendat, Haudenosaunee and Mississaugas. This land is covered by the Dish With One Spoon Wampum Belt Covenant, which was an agreement between the Haudenosaunee and Anishinaabek to share and care for the resources around the Great Lakes. We further acknowledge that this land is covered by the Between the Lakes Purchase, 1792, between the Crown and the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation.

Today, the City of Hamilton is home to many Indigenous people from across Turtle Island (North America) and we recognize that we must do more to learn about the rich history of this land so that we can better understand our roles as residents, neighbours, partners, and caretakers.

When we get together each week, we should be reminded that Hamilton has been a place where community singing has been taking place for thousands of years and we are proud to be a part of this ongoing history of culture.
