Canada’s next Federal Budget must invest in both physical and social infrastructure.

In our submission to the Government of Canada’s Budget 2027 consultations, YWCA Hamilton is calling for strategic investments in three areas:

Housing – Building the physical and social infrastructure people need to be safe, stable and housed.

Child Care – Investing in the infrastructure that enables women and families to participate fully in the economy.

Emerging Technology – So women and communities can participate in and benefit from a changing economy.

Physical infrastructure creates the foundation. Social infrastructure makes it work.

When someone reaches out for help, they deserve support that's easy to access and centred on their needs.

That's why YWCA Hamilton launched the Safety and Support Hub in 2025. This space is where survivors of gender-based violence can connect with the care and resources they need, all in one place.

This year, 982 survivors accessed support through the Hub, while families and youth also took part in programs that strengthen relationships and help build safer communities.

This year, YWCA Hamilton supported women, gender-diverse people and families with safe shelter, transitional housing, and the resources they need to move toward stability and permanent housing.

We celebrated a major milestone by breaking ground on The Oakwood Project, which will feature 84 units of safe and supportive housing and wraparound supports when it opens in 2027.

From meeting urgent needs today to building for tomorrow, we're addressing the housing crisis with real solutions.

Access to affordable childcare changes lives!

This year, YWCA Hamilton expanded childcare access by opening three new centres, growing existing programs, and providing services for 538 children across Hamilton and Haldimand County.

When children have a safe place to learn and grow caregivers can pursue education, careers, and new opportunities.

Together, we're helping build a stronger, more equitable future for families in our community.
