Happy Pride Month from all of us at HH! We believe that everyone deserves to live free from violence and discrimination, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. We stand in solidarity with the LGBTQIA+ community and recognize the unique challenges that LGBTQIA+ survivors of domestic violence face. We are committed to providing a safe and inclusive space for all survivors, and we will continue to work towards a world where everyone can live with dignity, respect, and love.

This Pride Month, we want to highlight the importance of intersectionality in our work. We recognize that LGBTQIA+ survivors of domestic violence may face additional barriers and challenges, including discrimination, stigma, and lack of access to resources. We are committed to providing culturally responsive services that are inclusive of all survivors, and we will continue to advocate for the rights and needs of LGBTQIA+ survivors in our community.

Join us in celebrating Pride Month and standing up against all forms of violence and discrimination. Let’s work together towards a world where everyone can live with safety, dignity, and love.

May is Sexual Assault Prevention Month.

Approximately 4.7 MILLION women in Canada (or 30% of women aged 15 and older) have been sexually assaulted outside of an intimate relationship.

With that being a staggering number, some populations are at even higher risk of sexual assault:

The rate of sexual assault against indigenous women is 3x higher than non-indigenous women. 37% of homeless young women experience sexual assault compared to 8% of men. And Canadians who identify as LGBTQIA+ are over 3x more likely to experience physical or sexual assault than those who identify as heterosexual or cisgender.

All Canadians have a right to live free from violence. It’s up to all of us to speak up against physical and sexual violence and work towards a safer community for everyone.

We are thrilled to announce our new project - The Healing House Foundation. We know that domestic violence and sexual assault/abuse can have a devastating impact on individuals and their families, including LGBTQ+ community. We are working to provide a shelter in Hamilton where survivors can heal and rebuild their lives.

We aim to provide a shelter where our survivors can receive a range of services, including safe and secure accommodation, trauma counselling, legal assistance and access to inhouse medical care . We are excited to work hard for our community and will count on your support to achieve this goal.
