Behind the scenes
Hey y’all! My name is Nicola Brogan and I’m the program coordinator for Thrive: “Like a Girl”. I am a recent Master’s graduate from the University of Ottawa with one heck of a passion for women’s reproductive rights. You may be asking yourself, how did this whole Thrive thing come about?
Born and raised in Hamilton Ontario, I’ve always called this quirky city my home. A little over a year ago, I got this crazy idea to start a youth initiative dedicated to inspiring young girls to be their best selves. Six years and two degrees later I was itching to put my hard work to the test. In partnership with Indigo Girls Group, I applied to the Pathy Foundation Fellowship (formerly Oceanpath Fellowship) at St. Francis Xavier University. After an intense application process I received the news in February that I had been accepted to the 2019-2020 cohort. In summer 2019, my cohort spent 4 weeks on St. FX’s beautiful campus in Antigonish, NS building our foundational skills in community change.
As goslings do, we fled the nest at the end of August to embark on a 9-month journey within our chosen communities. So here I am, starting this journey alongside my incredible volunteers and support team as we set out to inspire young minds to do great things.
