🦋 Help gather seeds for butterflies!

Join our friends from Action 13 in The Children’s Garden at Gage Park next Saturday, September 12 from 10 AM - 1 PM to discover which native plants butterflies depend on and gather seeds to help grow your own butterfly garden at our third-annual Fall Harvest Festival!

Did you know butterflies need specific plants to lay their eggs? Learn about these special host plants, then get hands-on gathering native seeds and discovering how you can grow them at home! 🌱

Action 13 is a grassroots group of active citizens based in Ward 13 of the City of Hamilton. Founded in 2021 out of a passionate concern about climate change and biodiversity loss, Action 13 organizes speaker events, workshops, seed libraries, and the Dundas Repair Café.

This is just one of the many ways to celebrate the harvest at our Festival! You can also dig into fall gardening and nature care, play harvest-themed garden games, enjoy interactive drumming workshops, get hands-on in the Harvest Kitchen, explore Indigenous teachings, discover the world of seeds, take on zero-waste activities, and much more! 🍂

Join Joyce Leung from Joyce of Cooking on Saturday, September 12 from 10 AM - 1 PM to make your own tasty pickled vegetables at our third-annual Fall Harvest Festival!

This FREE, fun-filled instant pickling workshop will invite children to get hands-on with fresh vegetables and discover how a few simple ingredients can create something delicious and nutritious! 🥒

Joyce is a dedicated cooking class instructor with a passion for teaching kitchen basics to help her students build confidence and develop a genuine love for cooking. With a deep-rooted enthusiasm for gardening and growing food, she integrates these skills into her classes, believing that understanding how to cultivate and prepare fresh ingredients can transform lives.

And that’s just one part of the day! You can also dig into fall gardening and nature care, play harvest-themed garden games, join an interactive drumming circle, explore Indigenous teachings, discover the world of seeds, take on zero-waste activities, and more! 🍂

🌱 Come dig, build, explore, and play your way!

Wild & Free Garden Play is back at The Children’s Garden! Join us this Wednesday, September 2nd from 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM for a FREE session of unstructured, nature-based play in our Gage Park garden.

Made possible through support from Hamilton Community Foundation, these drop-in sessions invite children of all ages to lead the adventure through play. They can dig, build, explore, create, get curious, take healthy risks, and follow their imaginations wherever they take them!

There are no right or wrong ways to play, just the freedom for kids to explore, connect with nature, and play in their own unique ways.

No registration is required, just come as you are and let the garden inspire the adventure. We can’t wait to see you for this fun-filled day of play! 🌱

Join us tonight, August 13, and next Thursday, August 20, from 5-7 PM for our FREE Garden Keepers’ Sessions in our garden at Gage Park.

These casual, drop-in sessions are a little different each week, shaped by what’s happening in the garden. Kids can help with hands-on gardening tasks, get their hands in the soil, and learn about all kinds of things along the way! 💚

There will be no session on August 27, but we’ll be back weekly starting September 3.
