🌙 It’s almost time to tuck The Children’s Garden in for its winter nap!

Join us for our second-annual Garden Bedtime Bash this Saturday, October 17, from 10 AM - 12 PM at our Gage Park garden for a morning of hands-on gardening, creative crafts, and outdoor fun!

From harvesting the last of the season’s flowers, veggies, and seeds to planting garlic and spring bulbs, there’s so much to do before we tuck the garden in for winter! Plus, kids can get creative with pumpkin crafts and take home a FREE pumpkin, courtesy of Terra - Where Colour Lives! 🎃

Get ready for a Seed Sleepover with Action 13! Little Planters and Plant-Teens will get to plant seeds in a cozy container to take home, where they’ll spend the winter outdoors before waking up in spring to grow beautiful flowers that butterflies love! 🦋

Join us for our Garden Bedtime Bash at The Children’s Garden in Gage Park on Saturday, October 17 from 10 AM - 12 PM to learn how to winterize the garden and help it get the rest it needs for a happy, healthy start to the next growing season! 🌙🌱

One tiny patch of garden. How many living things can you find?

On Thursday, October 1, the Ontario Science Centre is bringing a real field biodiversity investigation to The Children’s Garden, and your young scientists get to do the investigating!

As part of Nature Detectives: The World Beneath Our Feet, children and families will explore a 1-Square-Foot of Biodiversity, using real scientific field tools and observation skills to search for plants, insects, and other signs of life hiding in plain sight.

Look closely. Look underneath. Look again. One square foot of garden might be holding an entire tiny world you’ve never noticed before!

For the first time, we are thrilled to welcome the Ontario Science Centre to The Children’s Garden at Gage Park for the FINAL TD Bio Spotlight Session of the season!

NATURE DETECTIVES: THE WORLD BENEATH OUR FEET

Get ready for a very special evening of hands-on science, outdoor discovery, and biodiversity!

What interactions happen between animals, plants, and insects on the forest floor? How does weather affect the world around us? And how do scientists investigate the species they discover in nature?

Led by Ontario Science Centre Programming Specialists Jessica Shearer and Victoria Gee, children and families will become Nature Detectives and investigate the hidden world of biodiversity.

Get hands-on with real plant and animal specimens, explore scientific field tools, investigate the life beneath your feet, and create your own critter designed to blend in (or stand out)!

Calling All Teens! We have a special workshop just for YOU! 🌲

Learn about native trees and cultivate your very own bonsai tree at our Native Trees & the Art of Bonsai Workshop on Saturday, October 3rd, Hosted by TCGPC educator Mark Vanderheyden and in partnership with Hortico!

🌳 What is a bonsai tree?

A bonsai is a miniature tree that is cared for using a Japanese growing method, and is trimmed and pruned to look like a full size tree.

At this workshop, teens (ages 12-17) can expect to learn all about native trees, forest biodiversity, and ecological systems; how to root, plant, and care for their very own bonsai trees; and learn about sustainable practices to develop their own environmental stewardship.

Rain Date: This event will take place rain or shine, however if we experience thunderstorms in the area we will move the event date to the following day: Sunday, October 4th from 1:00 - 4:00PM

🌱 Ready to become a Seed Sleuth?

Join Charelle St. Aubin from Dundurn Castle’s Historic Kitchen Garden this Saturday, September 12 from 10 AM - 1 PM in our Gage Park garden space for a hands-on seed adventure at our third-annual Fall Harvest Festival!

Let’s get messy while we search for seeds! This squishy hands-on experience will explore where seeds come from and where they like to hide. There will be lots of curious flowers, fruit, seeds, and seed pods from Dundurn’s Historic Kitchen Garden to investigate using all your senses, and you’ll be able to take some of your favourite seeds home after you fold and decorate a paper envelope! 🍂🌻

Charelle St. Aubin works in the Historic Kitchen Garden at Dundurn National Historic Site, a recreation of the 1850s garden belonging to the MacNab family. Today, the 1.5-acre garden is home to more than 200 heirloom varieties of fruits, vegetables, herbs, and flowers, grown using historic tools and techniques.

And that’s just one part of the day! You can also dig into fall gardening and nature care, play harvest-themed garden games, enjoy a corn roast, get hands-on in the Harvest Kitchen, explore Indigenous teachings, gather seeds for a butterfly garden, take on zero-waste activities, and more! 🍁
