Another email forwarded from OPSEU regarding an Asian Heritage Month virtual forum this Friday night.

Dear OPSEU/SEFPO members,

May is Asian Heritage Month in Canada. We celebrate the legacy, history, and contributions of Asian Canadians, whose history in Canada goes back more than 150 years.

OPSEU/SEFPO’s Coalition of Racialized Workers (CoRW) will be hosting a virtual Asian Heritage Month forum on Friday, May 27, 2022 from 6pm-8pm. The event will highlight and celebrate the contributions, successes and stories of resistance of the Asian communities in Ontario. Join an inspiring roster of speakers including award-winning author and screenwriter, Catherine Hernandez.

Join us on Friday, May 27th to recognize and celebrate Asian Heritage Month 2022.

Time: 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Location: Virtually on Zoom (a link will be provided to all registered participants morning of the event)

An email from OPSEU to all young workers regarding a conference in Toronto this August! If you want to get more involved, this is a great way to start. Info on how to sign up is included.

Dear Young Workers:

The OPSEU/SEFPO Provincial Young Workers Committee (PYC) invites you to submit your application for the 2022 Young Workers Conference! It will take place from August 12-14 at the Courtyard by Marriott in downtown Toronto. In addition to welcoming previous conference participants, we would like to extend a special invitation to those who have not attended in the past. We welcome all members who identify as young workers, 35 and under. We look forward to meeting you!

“Be Seen, Be Heard, Be Louder: We are the RIGHT NOW” will celebrate today’s young workers and leaders in the labour movement. Many are local presidents and influential members of their communities. This conference will focus on developing leadership skills that are meant to last a lifetime. Guest speakers will inspire but will also challenge young workers to examine their own strengths and weaknesses especially when it comes to setting their own professional and personal goals. Workshops and related activities will focus on self-advocacy, public speaking and political action.

Event participants will be selected by the PYC with assistance from the Equity Unit. The selection process will try to achieve a diverse group of attendees, representative of the young workers within our membership. All applicants will be contacted in June and will be advised of the status of their application.

Do not miss this opportunity to network, learn, share experiences and have some fun. Please submit your application no later than end of day on May 29, 2022. Most of our recent business was covered at our Fall GMM so this Spring GMM meeting will focus on electing delegates and alternates for the Regional Meeting in March 2022 and Convention in April 2022. Voting for these has traditionally gone very quickly as there isn't usually a lot of competition, if any, for the spots. In attendance will be our new Staff Representative, Jannet Geddes, who will be running the elections if any are needed.

It's critical we get quorum, so as usual there will be a LOT of gift cards given away.
