ISANS

ISANS ISANS is a leading community organization that welcomes immigrants to Nova Scotia. We are the largest immigrant-serving agency in Atlantic Canada.

ISANS was created by the merger of Metropolitan Immigrant Settlement Association (MISA) and Halifax Immigrant Learning Centre (HILC) – together we have a combined experience of over fifty years serving immigrants in Nova Scotia. We offer services in an inclusive manner, respectful of, and sensitive to, diversity. We make partnership, professionalism and accountability a priority in every aspect of our work.

Need a document translated? We can help.

Moving to Nova Scotia often requires translating important documents, including driving licences and records, diplomas, transcripts, birth, marriage certificates, employment records, and other essential documents. Accurate translation helps ensure a smooth transition.

ISANS Translation Services provides translation support for newcomers to help with immediate settlement needs in Nova Scotia.

Please note: Translation services are provided for a fee.

Have questions about fees, eligibility or the documents we translate? Our team is here to help.

New talent. New opportunities. Stronger communities.

Our Bridge to Hospitality Program graduates have completed an intensive training journey focused on workplace communication, safety certifications, job readiness, and employer connections. Even before the program concluded, several participants had already secured employment opportunities.

We are proud to celebrate their achievements and thank our employer partners and the Province of Nova Scotia for supporting newcomers as they build successful careers and contribute to Nova Scotia's growing hospitality sector.

Congratulations to all graduates on this well-deserved accomplishment.

We are celebrating the completion of another Immigrant Youth Employment Program (IYEP) cohort at ISANS!

Eight young newcomers from India, Afghanistan, Sudan, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Malawi, the Philippines and Tanzania have spent the past several weeks building the skills, knowledge and confidence needed to take their next steps in the Canadian workforce.

Through pre-employment training, participants explored workplace culture, safety, communication and other essential skills to help prepare for success in the workplace.

And the next chapter is already beginning! Some participants have already secured employment and are starting their new roles, while additional participants are currently interviewing with employers.

Congratulations to all eight graduates! Your hard work and determination are worth celebrating, and we’re excited to see where your career journeys take you.

We’re proud to support young newcomers as they build their careers and futures in Nova Scotia.

ConnectHER Café: Networking & Elevator Pitch in Action is part of ISANS’ Visible Minority Newcomer Women at Work (VMNW) program, supporting newcomer women as they build the skills, connections and confidence needed to pursue employment and career opportunities in Nova Scotia.

At the latest ConnectHER Café, participants strengthened practical networking skills, practised their elevator pitches and explored how to confidently communicate their experience, skills and strengths in professional settings.

These opportunities go beyond a single networking session. They help newcomer women build professional networks, increase career confidence and strengthen their pathways to employment and economic participation.

We extend our sincere thanks to our guest speakers, Huwaida Medani, Fatu M. Kaba, Georges Hanna and Marcela Cameron, for sharing their expertise, insights and encouragement with participants.

Through VMNW, ISANS continues to create opportunities for newcomer women to connect, grow their professional networks and move forward in their careers.
