Help When You Need It Most

The two top reasons many internationally trained immigrants don't resume their careers after moving to Canada are time and money.

It costs so much more than they expected to get their credentials recognized and the time it takes to save up those funds is too long.

That's where the Atlantic Immigrant Career Loan Fund can change things. For example:

"I am very grateful to AICLF for providing financial assistance when I truly needed it. The loan support made a significant difference during a challenging time and helped ease my financial burden."

Those words from one of our clients mean the AICLF did exactly what it was designed to do. It quickly helped an internationally trained professional get their credentials recognized and get back to working in their chosen career. Maybe we can do the same for you. Check us out at www.aiclf.ca or contact us directly at [email protected].

Ignite Always Gives Us A Reason To Smile

The Atlantic Immigrant Career Loan Fund was recently invited to participate in the launch of the new Inclusion Charter in Fredericton, New Brunswick. We also participated in Ignite's Welcome Expo, showcasing our support for newcomers looking to resume their chosen careers.

Steven Claveau (left) and Ken Partridge represented the AICLF at both events. They both had a great time, judging by those big smiles.

A big thank you to Ignite for including us. Always a pleasure!

The Atlantic Immigrant Career Loan Fund Roadshow!

The AICLF is excited to be hitting the road latter this month to visit Prince Edward Island. While there, we're attending several meetings with stakeholder and partners to help spread awareness of the work we do assisting internationally trained immigrants return to their chosen careers.

Some of the organizations we are meeting with include the Immigrant and Refugee Services Association of P.E.I., CBDC, Engineers PEI, and the Royal Bank of Canada.

If you or your organization would like us to drop by while on the Island, feel free to reach out to Ken Partridge at [email protected] to arrange a meeting.

What does the AICLF mean by "capping and reducing"?

When clients access financing through the Atlantic Immigrant Career Loan Fund, we do not make them responsible for the full amount all at once.

As each participant draws from their financing account to pay for a specific fee, course, or exam, the amount they owe is then capped at that amount and the interest payments they make each month are based only on that amount.

The interest payments then go toward reducing the amount they owe. These two actions together are capping and reducing.

As additional amounts are withdrwn from their account to pay for future expenses, the amount owed will increase. However, clients are only ever responsible for the amount they are currently using. So, for example, if a client doesn't need the full amount of the financing they were approved for and funds remain in their account, those remaining funds are returned to RBC and the client is never responsbile for repaying them.

How does repayment of an Atlantic Immigrant Career Loan Fund loan work?

All microloans offered through the AICLF charge only a small monthly interest payment during the period you are studying to get your credentials recognized. After your studies are complete and your credentials are in place is when you begin repaying the full loan.

The monthly interest payments are only charged on the amount of the loan you are currently using, not the whole amount. So, if you only withdraw a portion of the laon to pay for a course or exam, that is all you pay interest on until you withdraw more.

Interest is based on RBC's prime rate plus one per cent. The current prime rate is 4.45 per cent.
