iMOVe iMOVe helps people in conflict with systems heal using art, storytelling and filmmaking

iMOVe (In My Own Voice) helps youth at risk and people who have been incarcerated, primarily but not exclusively those of African Nova Scotian descent, to avoid coming into conflict with the law and reintegrate into community using the arts, storytelling, filmmaking and other forms of cultural production.

Description
The Centre for Sound Communities invites you to celebrate the release of Bala, the debut balafón album by Lassana Diabaté. The event will feature performances by Lassana and musicians and collaborators who contributed to the project.

Bala is released through Smithsonian Folkways Recordings as part of the Sound Communities Series. Recorded at Cape Breton University and produced by Dr. Marcia Ostashewski, the album blends Mande musical traditions with original works inspired by Unama’kik.
