We produce, present & develop original Q***r theatrical work. In addition, we present fully realized work through our seasonal programming.

We are particularly interested in supporting emerging artists and new work through our annual festival OutFest.

Event Update

After careful consideration, we have decided to postpone our fundraising event (Eat Your Arts Out) and the launch of our Q***r Arts Fund.

The response to this initiative was very positive; many businesses offered to either host an event or donate items, and two offered to donate a dollar from the sale of a specific item sold on the day of the event.

However, our Artistic Director Isaac Mulè was beginning to feel stretched thin.

With a number of exciting things planned for our 2027 Season, he wanted to ensure that upcoming projects, especially our annual festival OutFest, would not be impacted.

While this initiative may be on pause, it does not diminish its importance.

With additional support, volunteers, and a bit more time to plan, we aim to re-launch this project. For now, we're focused on our upcoming 2027 Season, which will include the launch of our Presentation Series, our annual festival, and two productions.

Support Q***r Artists

On November 4th Page1 Theatre will be hosting a fundraiser event “Eat Your Art Out,” in support of Q***r artists in Nova Scotia. This event is in partnership with the Q Creative Network.

We have been looking at additional ways to support artists outside our seasonal programming, and with the recent cuts to Arts, and Culture by the Provincial Government, it felt like the time was now.

In partnership with 6 venues, and with over 15 local artists involved, events will be taking place across the city. There will also be a silent auction to help raise more funds. Money raised will go towards the Q***r Arts Fund, which will distribute Micro-Grants to artists, and projects across the Province, and to Page1 Theatre’s inQubator Program.

inQubator is a 2-Year Program that supports the development, and presentation of New Work at OutFest from local artists. There are also several businesses that will be donating money from the sale of items that day.

Participating venue partners, events, and performances will be announced in the coming weeks.

- A panel of 5 people will select the Micro-Grant recipients

The submission call for projects will remain open until November 4th. Artists can submit projects that are either going to be presented/produced in the coming year (2027) or work they would like to develop.

To every artist that submitted to OutFest 2027 - thank you.

This year we received submissions from artists in new communities we have not reached before, which is very exciting. We are truly humbled to see the amount of incredible work happening across the country, and the number of exciting Q***r stories being developed.

The OutFest lineup will be announced in January 2027 at our season launch.

This is also a great moment to recognize the importance of Arts and Culture here in Nova Scotia, and the impact more funding for festivals can have on the local economy.

Submissions for the Q***r Arts Fund will remain open until the fundraiser event in November, so there is still time to submit. You can find the link in our bio.

Today is the last day to submit to OutFest 2027! OutFest is the largest Q***r performance festival in Mi'kma'ki/Atlantic Canada, with local, regional, and national artists performing at venues across the city.

The festival is open to emerging, and established artists, theatre creators, dancers / movement artists, and more. We are currently seeking submissions for:

◾️ NEW WORK STAGE

We are seeking theatrical and or dance/movement pieces. Either first drafts, and first time projects, Work In Development which includes projects that have been previously workshopped / presented but are still in development, and Completed Work that has been completed within the past 1 - 3 years.

◾️ OPEN STAGE

We are once again looking for work that is non-theatre / non-dance / non-movement based. This slot is open to sound designers, experiential work, digital, and more. Projects can be New, In Development, and or Completed.

◾️ inQubator

A 2- Year Development Program for local artists based in Nova Scotia. One artist will be guaranteed a spot in 2027 to present a workshop presentation, and then again in 2028, to present a full presentation. Page1 Theatre will provide financial, and professional support to the development of this work.

Q***r Artists in Nova Scotia

Page1 Theatre has launched its most ambitious project yet - the Q***r Arts Fund (QaF) - to support the creation, and presentation of Q***r work.

Are you planning an upcoming workshop?
Are you looking to take some time to develop your idea further?
Do you have a presentation or performance coming up?

Apply to the QaF to receive support.

In November the QaF will host "Eat Your Arts Out," with all of our partners, raising money for Micro Grants which will be distributed to Q***r artists across Nova Scotia. The fund currently sits at $1,000, with 7 different venues / restaurants hosting various events, as well as 3 Business Partners who will donate money from the sale of a particular item.

This is a great way to encourage folks to shop local, supporting both Q***r-owned businesses, and the QaF. We also have 5 items that have been donated to our silent auction and we are still collecting more.

The QaF is currently funding:

Theatre
Dance/Movement
Non-traditional Performance Pieces

The goal is to award a micro-grant to:

1 Artist / Project in HRM
1 Artist / Project outside HRM
1 Artist / Project in Cape Breton

* If additional funds allow, we will support more projects.

Applications for the QaF will remain open until the event in November, with notification provided in December, and a public announcement in January during our season launch in January.

We are once again seeking submissions for inQubator, a 2- Year Development Program designed to support the development, and presentation of new work. The selected artist / work will be guaranteed a spot in 2027 to present a workshop presentation, and then again in 2028, to present a full presentation.

Page1 Theatre will provide financial, and professional support for the development of this work. Submissions can include script/text-based material, dance / movement, and or non-traditional performance styles.
