🌿 Happy International Day for Biodiversity! 🌎

This year’s theme, “Acting Locally for Global Impact,” reminds us that small actions in our own communities can make a real difference for ecosystems around the world. Today, we encourage you to spend some time outside appreciating the biodiversity all around you; from local plants and pollinators to birds, forests, and shorelines.

Want to learn more about the species around you? Download the iNaturalist app and start documenting the biodiversity you see! 🐝🌱

Looking for a way to contribute? Check out our volunteer page on our website to get involved in local environmental and conservation initiatives!

We’d also like to give a special thank you to our Biodiversity Caucus for their continued dedication and conservation efforts in our community. 💚

Are you interested in seeing how communities can make a real impact on nature? Join the Nova Scotia Biodiversity Caucus this Wednesday, May 13 at 11 AM for our next caucus meeting!

We’re excited to welcome Will Bollwerk from the Cliffs of Fundy UNESCO Global Geopark, who will share how the Geopark is protecting the Minas Basin’s biodiversity through innovative partnerships. From working with the Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) to protect the rare Mud Piddock, to transforming shoreline waste into community “art” through our Debris to Design initiative, Will will show how observation turns into action, and how you can be part of it!

After the presentation, we’ll discuss caucus updates and plans for the summer months. Everyone’s welcome—new faces, longtime nature lovers, or anyone curious about conservation. Bring a friend and see how community-driven stewardship can make waves! 🌊

It's National Volunteer Week in Canada and we'd like to express our deepest gratitude to NSEN's volunteer Board of Directors.

Our Board of 10 volunteer Directors are located across the province and represent a wide variety of experience and knowledge. While some Boards focus strictly on non-profit governance, ours is different—it's a working Board. Beyond their contributions to leadership and governance, each Director plays an active role in the work of the organization.

Like many small non-profits, NSEN relies on seasonal staff contracts to carry out operations. In between those contracts, these individuals step up even more to fill in the gaps. Thanks to these volunteers, the network can continue to support its members, provide free public education, sustain caucuses, and facilitate communication across the environmental sector.

To each of NSEN's Directors, thank you so much for your dedication to building a sustainable future for Nova Scotia.
