Well, that’s a wrap! The CUPE NS Convention has come to an end.

Here is a quick look at how we finished strong:

Yesterday was a busy day with Regional Director report, Claudia Chender as a guest speaker, the Political Action panel, and the Human Rights forum, which was chaired by our very own, Calvin! Our delegates did an amazing job speaking up on a variety of resolutions.

Huge shoutout to our members who were elected to serve on provincial committees: Braunwyn & Tammy on the Education Committee, and Shelley & Jenny on the Health & Safety Committee: Shelley & Jenny

We closed out the convention today with Jennifer Benoit, from the NS Health Coalition and the Provincial Officer elections.

It was a week of long hours, but the networking, new connections, and powerful shows of solidarity made it all worth it.

It's Day 3 of the CUPE NS convention in Halifax, with 21 delegates representing Local 5047!

From Sunday’s Education Sector meetings with Council reports and strategic bargaining discussions to Monday’s Executive Board and committee reports, we've been working hard. We also heard from incredible leadership, including Melissa Marsman (NS Federation of Labour), Danielle Sampson (Canadian Labour Congress), and our CUPE National officers, Mark Hancock and Candace Rennick.

✊🏽 We hit the streets to support Long Term Care workers. The rain held off while we danced, sang, and stood in solidarity!

🏆 Huge congratulations to our Lead Shop Steward, Sherri LeBlanc, who won the Steward of the Year Award at the banquet! Sherri works tirelessly for our local every single day (even on vacation!), all while balancing her full-time job as an EPA. Thank you for everything you do, Sherri! We are so proud to have you leading the way. ❤️

We stand with Long Term Care.

Show your support and solidarity by spreading the news on the Rally!

When: Monday, May 25 from 12:1
Where: 1650 Argyle Street

ATTENTION STRIKING LONG TERM CARE WORKERS AND ALLIES!

This is a super critical time. We've been on the picket line for six weeks. We're continuing to strike AND work, under ESA legislation. We are all tired and government knows this. Tim Houston knows this.

MLAs have closed their offices. The PCs are hiding. The provincial government cannot keep ignoring workers. We've made our priorities clear. Workers need a living wage. It's that simple.

While our elected representatives close their offices and avoid our calls, and while thousands of workers are on picket lines across Nova Scotia, Premier Houston is delivering a state of the province address at the Halifax Convention Centre on Monday.

So while Houston delivers his state of the province address inside, we'll be outside, making noise about the state of long term care!

All striking locals are asked to collapse their picket lines and join us outside the Halifax Convention Centre where we will form one massive picket line. Bring your signs, your noisemakers, your sidewalk chalk, your costumes and your dance moves.

Invite your friends, family, community members—all are welcome!

This is our moment. This a chance to put pressure on Premier Houston and let government know that we are stronger together!
