Jane's Walk * Halifax

Jane's Walk * Halifax Jane’s Walk is a street-level celebration of our neighbourhoods and stories, inspired by Jane Jacobs’ life and ideas.

This year's series of walks is taking place May 1-3 Through the simple act of walking together and discussing what makes a neighbourhood, Jane’s Walk helps knit people together into strong and resourceful communities. Created in 2007 in Toronto by friends of the urban thinker Jane Jacobs, the annual series of free, volunteer-led urban walks has grown from 27 to over 500 walks, from Calgary to Canberra and Sao Paulo to Saskatoon.

Yesterday afternoon, Jonathan from gave us a great tour of some of the public art pieces created through the Gritty to Pretty placemaking project downtown. We loved learning about the artists, their techniques and inspiration!

Did you know: This Gritty to Pretty grant has supported local artists since 2015, to infuse the downtown with colour, spark curiosity and represent our history and diversity!

You can learn more about the project and the artists on Downtown Halifax Business Commission’s website. Thanks for being a part of Jane’s Walk!

Thank you Maura and David for your storytelling and knowledge of Dartmouth! Did you know Ian Forsyth was the superintendent of Dartmouth schools back in the early 1900s, with two schools today named after him.
