Today is SUDEP Action Day! SUDEP (Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy) is something everyone living with epilepsy and their families should have the opportunity to learn about. While it can be a difficult topic to discuss, understanding the risks is an important part of epilepsy awareness and seizure safety. One in 1,000 people with epilepsy will die from SUDEP each year.

We encourage you to start the conversation with your healthcare provider, ask questions, and make sure you have the information you need to make informed decisions about your care. 💜

Today, October 21st, is SUDEP Action Day! SUDEP stands for Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy. Today is a reminder of the importance of raising awareness, understanding the risks, and having conversations about SUDEP.

Not everyone with epilepsy is aware of or told about SUDEP and the risks associated with epilepsy, which can put them in danger of worsening seizures, injury, or dying prematurely. People with epilepsy and their families WANT to be told about SUDEP and epilepsy risks. Many bereaved families were NOT told about SUDEP and wish that this vital information had been shared, as it might have saved their loved one’s life.

It is time to change this. So that every person with epilepsy, their families, and health professionals are not only aware of these risks but can take an active role in discussing, supporting, and reducing them.

We’re excited to be introducing the EAM board of directors, the people who help guide and shape our organization. Next, we have our Board President, Angela! Read her bio below and please join us in wishing her a very happy birthday! 🎉🥳

Angela has been involved with EAM since 2006 and has been an avid volunteer and fundraiser for the association.

Angela and her family live in the Halifax Area. She is passionate about supporting people living with epilepsy by raising awareness and advocating on behalf of the community. She has also been heavily involved with helping support other community and non-profit groups to raise funds to support initiatives.

Angela has a background in early childhood education and human resources. Angela has served on our board in the past and looks forward to all of the work we can do in the future.

October 18–24 is Invisible Disabilities Week! 💜

Not all disabilities are visible, and you can’t always tell what someone is experiencing just by looking at them. Epilepsy is one example of an invisible disability, with challenges that can extend far beyond what others see.

This week, let’s raise awareness, encourage understanding, and create a more inclusive community for everyone living with an invisible disability. 💜

This past weekend was our Purple Walk for Epilepsy in Bedford Nova Scotia! We want to sincerely thank everyone who came out to walk, fundraiser, and raise awareness with us. To our sponsors, donors, volunteers, and community, you made this event so special and impactful. Your support allows us to continue to provide programs and services to people and their families affected by epilepsy.

October 18th - 24th is Invisible Disabilities Week!

Each year, individuals from across the globe come together to bring awareness, education, and support to people across the globe who live with invisible disabilities. Not all disabilities are visible, and you never know what someone may be navigating behind the scenes. Epilepsy is one of many conditions that may not be immediately apparent, but its impact can be significant.

This week, we’re raising awareness, encouraging understanding, and reminding our community that not all disabilities are visible, but all deserve recognition, respect, and support. 💜
